Hey guys I am working on getting a CB700 up and running and road worthy again.  All of the rubber stays that hold the blinkers have dried out and cracked.  I don't want to buy new ones from honda because they are expensive so I am looking to go the aftermarket route.  Has anybody here replaced their stock ones for aftermarket.  Which ones did you use?  Post pictures if you have them.

I replaced mine with a pair of Kuryakyn P-Clamps and some aftermarket stems from JC Whitney.  The stems I got are a little to flexible for my taste, they bounce more than I like when I hit a bump. I've since found this posting on the Nighthawk Yahoo group:

If your front light fixtures are working but the mount stems are rotten or
broken, try this - disconnect the mount from the bulb fixture (Phillips
head screw). Take the mount and break way the plastic that surrounds the
metal piece that attaches to the bulb fixture. Next dismantle the bolts
that the headlight faring pivots on and attach the piece of metal that you
extracted from the mount stem through the bolt and re-tighten. Now you can
re-attach the bulb fixture to that piece of metal and your problem of broken
light mounts are fixed, you have kept a quasi-factory look and have done
something to fix the one screw up that Honda made on this bike.

I haven't tried it yet but it sounds promising and I may give it a shot.

a company called dixie sells aftermarket 700s front signal mounts . I just bought some from a guy that sells them on ebay called tas motorsports , I had to call them they don't always list them on ebay . I think it was $16 for the pair shipped and they're 100% copies of the original .

yeah , sure beats the $40 a pop honda ones . Sadly dixie won't sell to you unless you're a business so you have to go through a middle man . Tas motorsports is very friendly though and can find you all sorts of neat stuff you didn't know existed . My only complaint with them so far is they still haven't charged my account for the stems , I'll probably call them tomorrow as I don't want a surprise $16 charge after I've forgotten about the order (which I got over a week ago) , but I guess them not taking my money isn't a huge complaint in the first place . Honestly when I heard they had them I gave them a call just to see how much they were and when he quoted me $16 shipped for the pair my jaw just about hit the floor .....good stuff .

@Tdodge7

So the piece of grayish plastic attached to the fork is the replacement part provided by Dixie?

it's not plastic , it's rubber just like the original , but yes , it wraps around the forks like a clamp and the turnsignal bolts to it . They are direct copies of the originals .

On a side note I did call tas motorsports back to let them know they had forgotten to charge me , they gave me a discount for my honesty and finally charged my card , good people , I'll probably be doing more business with them in the future .

@munkey

I tried the trick with extracting the metal piece from the dried out rubber. Worked like a charm! I even used the same trick on the rear blinkers.  Thank You!!  ricky

Not my trick. I was just passing it on because it sounded promising. Good to know that it works.

How much were they?

Thanks...

I'm debating on going stock route or getting the LED mirrors of Ebay

The PO (or PO/PO) put these on the side of the faring and I'm not crazy about them...the bike looks narrow enough without something sticking out

Here's a picture from when I first bought my first NH S (many changes since then). But this pic demonstrates what the previous owner did for front signals.

Essentially he made a piece that bolts to the top mount bolt on the oil cooler. It is bent back 90 degrees at both ends and has holes drilled in it for new (aftermarket) signals to bolt to.
It's worked so well, that I still use that piece for my front signals.
I once saw another NH S owner do the same thing for front signals by using some metal trim off of a boat (bent in the same shape).

So, are the rear rubber stalks still available from the dealer?  Most of the references here have been to the fronts, and my bike has brand new fronts put on by the previous owner.  Someone has referenced dealer parts as being a little on the pricey side.  Like how pricey for a set of signal mounts?

Yea they are a bit pricey, but for $35 each they are worth not having to rig something up. I don't mind spending the money while they are still available. Who knows how long before honda discontinues them.

If you are talking about just the stem then apparently you didn't pay much attention to the rest of this thread.

What I need are the rubber stalks for the rear signals, which I think is part # 16 in the diagram above, indicated at $27.73 each.  Honda calls this a "stay"??

    SKU: 33690-MJ1-000   STAY, RR. TURN SIGNAL (Honda Motorcycle Code 1693746)

So, are these available somewhere less for significantly less?
