Hey everyone, Finally after 3 looooong years I was able to buy my first real bike. It's a wonderfully maintained 1986 CB 700s. I have been a huge fan of the Honda NH ever since a friend of mine bought one new in 1985. I love the upright riding position with the semi-sport bike look. I have been reading this forum for about 3 weeks now and have learned so much about this great bike. When I got my "little rocket" she had 25k and I have put about 1300 miles on her in the past 3 months. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI bought "LR" for a guy who was upgrading to what he called a "true sport bike" He was asking $1500 but after a quick February ride we agreed on $1000 since it needed a new front tire and there was a small crack in the rear fender fairing. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI have done the usual "new" bike maintenance....oil change, spark plug, air filter, rear drive oil, new front tire, topped off brake and clutch fluid and that's about it...besides several bath's. Uploaded with ImageShack.usShe has been running a bit rough as of late so I added some Seafoam to a couple tanks and that seems to have helped, I also am getting about 45-48 MPG. Thanks to all the great info that everyone is posting and I'm looking forward to learning/posting more in the future. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

That is a sweet ride you got. Very clean. I'd say for $1000.00, you got a good deal.

Graler and I will happily welcome you to the group of elite riders of the best looking Nighthawk.
The mettalic candyapple red 86!
I can appreciate the fact that you want to make someone feel special because they own a rare bike. But I don't think owning a "red 86 Nighthawk" makes you an "elite rider". I'm sure there are some other folks on this forum that would disagree with you. Tone it down a bit Fish...you don't gain any special status because you own a red 86 NH.

If the day ever comes that I need your approval of any sort of status, that will be a sad day indeed.
Anyone with an operating brain knows it's meant tongue in cheek.
There are already moderators on this site, don't see that listed as you.

Good job I really enjoy your posts Fish. They tease and taunt people (at best) and now you've insulted everyone in the forum that doesn't own an 86 red NH S. Just what everybody wants to read when they are looking for help.

Welcome NHN to the group. Your bike looks bone stock to me. You got a great deal. Too bad you didn't find us a couple months ago - we had a rally near Robbinsville and it was awesome. I'm betting another Rally is forthcoming though, and it not, I'll come up there and ride with ya myself!! Edit - don't put it past me.... I just might do it. What kind of tires are you running? Ride safe my friend.

Beautiful bike. Mine ran rough when I picked it up recently. I suspect the previous owner let gas sit for a few months. After a $4 gas siphon from wal mart, some techron fuel system cleaner & new gas - I was amazed at the almost instant difference.
Has ran like a champ ever since.

Ride safe my friend. Hey hppants...yep it's bone stock, trying to keep it that way as much as possible, guess I'm a traditionalist. Hope there is another ride soon would love to hook-up with some other NH riders...if not the weather is great in NC right now Right now I'm running some factory size Dunlop's...any suggestions on brands and sizes that work better? Love the Red/White/Blue paint scheme you have on yours...I was looking hard for one like that but couldn't find anything even semi clean...Red was my next favorite and now that I have it I love it and yea like you said you can't beat that price

"Take good care of it, I'm starting to think they are the most rare, seeing so few that year/color. Everyone grabbed the RWB color in 86, thus few red ones exist"
As far as I know, the RWB model in '86 was only 1/4 of that model year/production, and the red/orange/black was the other 3/4 of production. There were several changes to the '86 NH-S (other than the new colors)...the engines and wheels were blacked out, and also the mirrors were changed to a more swept looking mirror (the red/orange bike pictured above, has '84-'85 mirrors on it).
ps, I took no offense to the statement about the "Elite riders", and di not think it was an insult to everyone else on the forum (just my 2 cents worth)
