Glad to find this Forum. I've owned a 700s since I was 16. I am now over 40.

Welcome to the group. Nice bike - you have taken very good care of it. Is your fairing screen taller than stock? Also, can you tell us a little more about your paint?
Ride safe.

Yay, you bought her new? I wish I was that smart & rich enough @ 13...
Do you have some pictures that would do the bike and paint job more justice perhaps?

Yeah...you said you've owned a 700s since you were 16. So was it the one pic? or have you owned several over the years?

jonwayneking. Glad you found us. Are the decals stock? The outline lines look bolder than the ones I've seen?

Wow, what a welcome. I'll try to answer all the questions, I got my first 700s at 17 it was an 85 Loved it. I sold it when I joined the Navy but picked up a 700 Sabre but it wasn't a Nighthawk nor as fast. This one is my project bike I just finished it up in January 2010. The paint is duplicolor black base, prism mid-coat then clear. the decals are from a local vynal shop for $125 installed and 10 year warrenty. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Wow spell check this is to cool.

Welcome to the group johnwayneking, very nice 700s. Did I miss the response about the windscreen? Is it stock or aftermarket?

The wind screen is aftermarket it was the onlything that came on the bike that I liked most everythng else has been changed. one good free mod for the blacked out 86 is to take a dremal and sand the black off the engine cooling fins, works like a champ.

Here is what it looked like when I purchased it. The guy I bought it from was sticker happy. I found out it was to cover damage, It had 12000 miles on it when I bought it.

jonwayneking...love the paint scheme on your bike. Did you have the headers redone as well? Been thinking about getting mine redone but wasn't sure what that would cost.

Thanks for clearing that up, I was just trying to figure out if you had blacked out the other parts of the engine and wheels on an older model or not, haha. I think this is the first '86 on here with blue decals if I'm not mistaken.

NightHawkNut, The Headers were bought off Ebay, then wire brushed thourouly and painted with VHT flame proof header paint (follow the directions on the can). I also used VHT clear coat, that I do not recommend, it's starting to turn whit-ish (if that is a word)

Good info thanks....When I bought my bike the previous owner had a complete extra set of headers that he gave me...yea gave me...but for now they are just sitting in my garage. That sounds like a good winter time "project". How long did it take you to wire brush? Did you do it by hand or with some mechanical help ie..buffer/electric drill etc. Oh and I noticed your turn signals are mounted on the front cowl...that's way cool. What brand are they?
