I saw a guy who had a 700s and he had chrom exhaust and headers. My question is what other years are compatible with the 700s, It looked awsome. scratcher

I've done a little research on this.  My bike has a chrome Mac 4-1 exhaust.  As far as I can tell, Mac is the only manufacturer that still makes a new header for the 700s.  But you can get it in either black or chrome.  If I was buying new, I'd definitely get black.  My chrome header turns blue or brown near the engine.  I have a product that removes it, with a lot of elbo grease, but in 200 miles or so, it comes back.  I'd get a black header, with a chrome muffler.  The NH750 and the "s" use different exhaust.

On the used market, Vance and Hines and Supertrapp also made headers for the 700s.  The Supertrapp system is trick in that it is adjustable - you can add or delete muffler disks to change performance and sound.

Carb. jetting is important if you put a header on.  A header will change the flor of the exhaust, and increasing the size of the carb. jets proportionly is needed.  Others can give you better advise on that.

Finally, I'm not totally convinced an aftermarket exhaust gives any noticable performance increase.  YMMV - but it does sound better IMO.  I wouldn't pay $400.00 for better sound, though.

The headers from a late model NH750 will fit a NH S and vice-versa.  But the mounts on the rear at the passenger pegs are different, they're off by an inch or two.  I have an unidentified 4-1 system from an NH S and fitted it to my '996.  The rear mount just needed to be moved.

After owning the supertrapp for a few years now, I would prefer to have a chrome system....and the reason is maintenance.
While the chrome systems turns blue and needs to be cleaned, the black pipe is either going to be coated with heat treated paint or powder coated. Both of which I have used on my supertrapp header...and both have not held up to the heat an road debris.
I have had my pipes off more then I can count to be painted and touched up and to be honest, its a pain in the a$$.
I've owned chrome MAC exhausts on other bikes and its the way to go for lowest maintenance.

Mac. company make an exhaust for the 700. Try e-bay. They make chrome and black. Perfect fit and nice quality.
