Here are pictures of the Nighthawk the day we brought it home.  A bit rough, but is getting better slowly.

Is the rear brake linkage supposed to go above the swingarm like that?  I dunno , but it looks odd to me...

Is the saddle cover a temporary solution?  Dig the stock tank graphics, not so sure about the exhaust.  I guess that's an exhaust hanger on the left passenger footpeg?

Looks surprisingly good without the side covers.

As far as I know it is.  I think it looks so odd due to the exhaust/mufflers normally hide it.

Yes the seat cover was the PO's idea of a repair.  I do have to give him credit as he saved the form from water damage.  I am trying to decide if I salvage the back half and only recover the front with the black vinyl I have here.

The tank and graphics look really nice out in the sun. So much shine and reflection.

That exhaust is gone.  Technically it should have fallen off on the way home with the bike.  You can't tell in the pictures but two of the pipes were somewhat welded about 2 inches away from the engine. I think a welder would have called it "spot welded".  There was no mufflers at all.... and I may be old but I like to be able to hear other noise when I ride and even after turning off the bike. I am pretty sure that those pipes amplified the sound of the bike.  But like I said those have been replaced with a set of 2 into 1 pipes and mufflers.  Sounds much better now.

I am not sure what that piece of metal was hanging from the rear peg.  Didn't line up to anything and like other things on this bike did not appear to belong on it.

I do have the left side cover but it is missing some of the retainers so it doesn't want to stay on.  At this point it was in the "spare parts" can that came with the bike.  When I look in that can I can not help but wonder how there can be "spare parts" for a bike.  Or wonder where they are suppose to go.

Slowly but surely the can has become less full as we figure this puzzle out.  I will update pictures again after we get the wiring back in place and the headlight bucket and light back in place.  Slow transformation but she is starting to look more like an original Nighthawk again.

Yup, every pic I see confirms this is normal.  I'm just used to the underslung linkage on my 700.
