Ok so this chain is worn beyond what I'd feel safe with.

Do you all usually replace the sprockets with the chain?  Or only if they need replacing (how would one tell if the sprockets need replacing also)?

I always replace the sprockets and chain together.  Worn sprockets will have sharp edged teeth.

Always best to replace them together.

Some interesting stuff here , Bell Ray does the trick for me though as it doesn't fling and keeps dirt at bay ...I lube at about 3-4 hundred miles and around 1k i use WD40 to clean the chain back to new and lube again.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/72/5768/ITEM/Bel-Ray-Super-Clean-Chain-Lube.aspx?SiteID=CSE_Gbase_5768&WT.mc_ID=80003&zmam=88421133&zmas=1&zmac=45&zmap=5768

It does make the chain look like it has white frosting on it but the stuff is tops.

Sprockets are cheap. I replace the chain and sprockets at the same time.

For cleaning, I use a Grunge Brush and Bel Ray when I check chain tension every 300-500 miles depending on the environment I'm riding in. Cleaning takes less time than adjusting the chain.

I'd think about changing the chain. I picked up a bike with 10k. I soon noticed the kings in the chain. Replaced along with sprockets. I went ahead and picked up a chain tools so I could rivet the new chain.
