so, i've been looking for something on the cheap with a V4.  checked out a BEATER of an interceptor 500... definitely a no-go.

then, i came across this on craigslist.   i went today, and worked out a deal with the guy, i'm picking it up on monday.  ok, it's WAY more than i wanted to spend, but for what it is, i think i'm still getting a good deal.  i'm VERY excited, it is in FANTASTIC shape (read: factory new, save for a few minor scratches and some adhesive from a tank pad), and i can't wait to put some miles on it!

(criagslist ad)
This is a 1987 Honda Interceptor (VFR). It is 700cc. It is all original and was in climate controlled storage for 10 years before I bought it six years ago. It has been garage kept. It has been maintained and runs like new, adult owned, and never been crashed. It has 1,483 original miles on it!!! Serious inquiries only.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions.  I'm particularly interested in seeing how upright the riding position is (if at all).

Regardless, congradulations.  I'm kind of looking for a stable mate.  SOQS is not looking nearly as excited as I am.  Any advice?

well, i did ride it up and down the street a bit, to around 50 mph.  it's definitely not upright, but my inital impression is that it's somewhere in between the NHS and the cbr600 in terms of forward lean.  i think it'll be a great sporty in-between.  i LOVE the rear cowl as well.  mmm blue and silver... *drool*

as far as SOQS goes... i promised to sell one of the NHS'.

then she asked me 'what am i gonna ride then'  haha, i love her.  if i get the NHS sold quickly, i think i'll see about finding her a 599 hornet.  the 919 flavor might be a bit much

i rode it home tonight, but was unable to do much besides stash it in the garage.  i will give it a thorough cleaning and a mechanical once-over before putting it into service.  it did turn 1500 miles on the way home... i'm excited to have what amounts to a brand new 1987 motorcycle!  the title from 2002 says the previous owner bought it with 748 miles on it.  he managed to double that in 8 years... slacker.  i plan on doubling that by the end of the year.

PICTURES as soon as i get situated and the mechanicals dealt with.

That brings back memories. That is the exact bike I took my MC endorsement test on. Same color too. My best friend owned it and he didn't have a car at the time so, we used to trade vehicles for weeks at a time. I loved that bike.I was so bummed out when he wrecked it. Nice find. thumb

a grand is a GREAT deal if its in halfway decent shape. i was entertaining VF500's as well, which were all RWB, since i likely wouldn't be able to find a RWB NHS... but i'm partial to blue anyway so this was a definite score!  The gear driven cams also are a big plus in my book, and it looks like though the valve adjustments won't exactly be easy, it won't be all that tough either, just a lot of stuff to remove to get at 'em.

LOKi, i took a bit of a hit at $3650, more than twice what i paid for the NH, but in CHERRY condition, i think paying a bit of a premium is worth it.

the interceptor is chain drive.  and yes, that v4 (especially with the gear driven cams) makes quite a noise!

laminar's got the v4 shaftie, and probably the nicest one you'll ever see.  we both have the museum pieces of our respective rides!

currently, all the fairings are sitting in my spare bedroom, waiting for me to fix an air duct, install new spark plugs and fuel filter, and clean the engine and frame.  after that, she'll be ready to roll!

too much to do lately, it's been baby steps getting this thing ready to go
