The weather wasn’t too promising today, but it held out for us, and we had a blast.  Put about 300 miles on  Ole’ Yella and enjoyed every single one of them.  My neighbor that bought RWB is gonna keep it for a while.  He bought some gear this week and decided to join us.  We met Loki early in the morning, and slabbed about 25 miles to Opelousas, where we met N5TBU and my buddy Troy on his V-star.  Unfortunately, Natehawk750 could not join us, and he was definitely missed.

From there, we took a ride to Fort Polk and Kistachie National Forest for some cave exploring.  N5TBU has been telling us about a rare Louisiana cave, and we had to see it for ourselves.  About 75 miles of wonderful twisties and I am really enjoying my bike.  We did have to ride about 3 miles off road, which I did not care for too much.  At least the road was dry.  Loki’s mud grips were having no trouble with is.

N5TBU brings us straight to the spot, and a very short walk later, we find it.

Exploring

Miner Loki?

Troy’s enjoying it too.

I’m a little claustrophobic, so the view from the outside was just fine for me.

Back at the bikes, we took time for a snack.

Hit the road and did stop for lunch, but I forgot the camera.  We picked up some photo-tags (to be posted appropriately), but otherwise, I didn’t get too many pictures.  I guess I was having so much fun with my “new” bike, I didn’t think too much about taking pictures.  The 750 is so smooth and I was wrong thinking that it would not handle the twisties as well as the 700.  It does just as good, if not better.  The low end power is more useable in the curves.  And the progressive suspension – awesome.

What a great day.

Looks like fun to me! I love caves, one of the most memorable things I ever did was go in a cave, turn my light off and open my eyes... just awesome. There is nothing crazier than knowing you can't see ANYTHING..

pantsman Im going to post some pics of the artifacts (points- arrowheads) that I have found over the years in and around caves. That cave looks like a great spot for some good finds.

I was enjoying the bike - no doubt.  Screwed her down one time on a long straight - not sure, but it was in the 95 range.  Absoutely rock solid all the way.  Loki and I had a blast on the twisties.  I got about 1/4" from the end of the chicken strips - that's close enough.  Everyone had a good time.

This is special.  I enjoy a ride by myself, but I really look forward to an adventure with friends.

It came with the bike.  It's a Vergas (sp?) and it slips right over the sissy bar.  Real spacious to with plenty of compartments.  I put my barrel bag on the seat and stuffed both with some towels just to see.  Here's a couple of pictures:

I rode around the neighborhood and the bags are definitely not in my way.  Everything has rain covers.  I might get a larger tank bag, but for now, I think I'm gonna try this instead of getting hard luggage.

That's enough storage for a trip to the Texas Hill Country.

Looks like you fellas had a blast. Sorry I had to miss out on the fun but Family comes first. You know how it is. I had a great day too.

N5TBU offered to take me back sometime when I get a chance I'll take him up on it sometime. I just don't know when yet. He said we would have to slow it down. I told him 55 was more my style anyway.

PantsMan- It looks like you got a pretty good set up there deffinatly enought for lite touring. I think you should hold out on the hard luggage and do a couple weekend trips with what you have first then decide if hard bags is for you or not. still a good looking bike you have now. Can't wait for the Texas trip that is deffinatly locked in. All ready have approval from SOQS and my calender is clear.

Loki and I took the lead knowing we ride a little more aggressively.  Troy, Brody, and Mark followed and we happily waited for them at road intersections.  It worked out well, but looking back, I prolly got a little carried away.  I was enjoying my bike.  Next time, I'll try to slow it down more.

I didn't go into the cave at all.  Troy and Loki went to the end and I think it was only about 20 feet.  Not very deep.

What a great weekend.

Pants, what tank bag is that? I have a large bag that didn't work out for me. Yours looks like no need to move it to fuel up?

It's the Cortech Mini-magnet tank bag.  It's been very durable, but a little on the small side.  I bought it because it was the only thing that would fit on RWB.  Now that I have a bigger fuel tank, I'm looking for a bigger tank bag.

Cool report HP!  thumb
Glad you are enjoying the 750.

BTW, has the carb washer mod been done or are you planning on doing it to your new bike?

N5TBU - when I get back from Georgia - we'll talk.  BTW - I talked to our common friend today and he was disappointed he couldn't join us.  I think he might try harder next time.

Gammer - the washer mod has not been done.  Loki and I were talking about it.  He's done it and drilled the baffles and reports a big mid range difference.  Man - I really love the stock exhaust sound (or lack of it).  Loki and I started our bikes next to each other - his is just a little louder - not too much really.  For now, I think I'm going to stay pat.

You can always do the washer mod and leave the exhaust. No reason why you have to do both. You might just want to do one washer, instead of two.
