Helmet vents close, but I have no idea why.  I think they'd all work better if they were not hindered by clumsy slides and dials and switches and the like and were just unobstructed ports.

In theory, you'd close them in the cold or rain,to keep out cold air and water, respectively.  In reality, doing so would cause fogging.  So vents stay open.

If anyone actually ever closes their helmet vent, please let me know.

My exo 400's stay open and are also drilled out for additional flow. This will take away from the Happy silence tho....I put a little dot toward the open position with a paint marker since it's visually hard to tell otherwise.

Mine are always open..in fact I went a step further and removed the stupid plastic rear thing so I have two big open holes on the back for even better ventilation!  ricky

Most of the year they're open. There are however certain temperature and humidity ranges where I close them. When it's cold (below 35-40F) I tend to close the top and rear vents and leave the chin vent open to keep the visor clear. Sometimes I set the top ones to half open.

Try riding in a rainstorm that closely resembles the Atlantic Ocean is being poured through a sieve on your head sometime. Huge water drops can do the chinese water torture routine on you after a while if you don't close them.

The ventilation on my HJC CL-15 is pathetic, so the vents are permanently fixed open, even in 35 degree weather.

Speaking of ventilating....do any of you take the helmet liner out and put it in the wash, or hand wash?

I tried hand washing, but it still doesn't get the funky smell out....tempted to throw everything in the washing machine and hope that it will not shrink too much.

So did I on the cold water mode, but I let them air dry in fear of the dryer melting the foam. Worked well.

I close mine in winter cold (under 40).  No fogging while moving.

Open most of the time, closed in rain and cold but I don't ride when it's to cold so not much of an issue.

Fish, how do you like the exo 400?

I also have an Exo 400 and love it Hockey...ventilation is pretty good and for a low priced helmet the fit doesn't get much better.

Thanks Ari. I have a HJC CS-R1 Inferno that I'm very happy with, but it is blue and black, looks great with my 650 but I was looking for one for the red/black 700. Is it odd that I want a helmet to match each bike?

I like it a whole lot. Went back and bought a second one recently. It has a couple little things, like the visor directing air at your eyes when half open and I would like more airflow through the vents (I fixed that).

It's by far the best deal around on a great helmet (DOT and Snell approved)

I find no sense in getting the 700 series since they are exactly the same except for graphic design and an unnoticeable difference in weight. The 400 is not heavy at all and the 700 is just about not any different.

You will pay alot more for the 700 tho.....

I think Scorpion is going with the 700 and that's why the remaining 400's are so cheap.
I bet in the near future they won't be for sale. The shields are the same for both, so no worry there.

The padding is great and has held up well without losing firmness.

I guess not...My Exo is some crazy red and black scheme and I picked it because my bike is black with red accents.  I'm not one of those guys who would turn down a free $750 helmet just because it didn't match my bike though.... giggle

I was looking at this one to match the 85 700s red/black.

The sizes are spot on if you measure off this chart correctly.

Very nice helmet, only the most handsome riders would protect their domes with that...

That would be my EXACT helmet HH!  Good choice!  thumb

And this little chin thingy catches your drool and really cuts down on the wind whistling up.

If you do order from them (my choice) have two or three designs in mind. They can't update their site as fast as they ship them out.

They are my Michigan buds and if you mention you are part of the forum I put their link on you can ask for the discount, if there is one on sellout stuff.
