I found a rough-but-running VFR Interceptor on Craigslist. I should not have gone to look at it. I should not have hit it off with the owner's family. I should not have sat on it. But I did, and it's coming home with me tomorrow. When it is streetworthy, it will replace the Vmax. The price was right and the sale of the Vmax will cover the components it needs: tires, carb kit, fork seals, caliper rebuild, bearings.
What it is, and what it should be:

Oh, HOKS is gonna be plenty mad about this...... Do you need an intervention process like Tryvelcro has? It goes something like this: Slobber slobber, here's the link to a cool bike I want. Then the job of the people intervening is to hatchet the linked bike to smithereens until it appears as junk even if it's right off the assembly line two minutes ago. So far, so good...unless she's good at hiding a bunch of bikes and making sure no one finds out.

Way to go Jenn!! Can't wait to see more. I've got a friend that is the original owner of that bike. He's a great mechanic - if you need something to cheat from, let me know. Your not getting rid of the NH are you?

Cool, I may need some help before this thing hits the road. Nighthawk is not going anywhere, it's the perfect bike for my daily commute and errands. And I love how it looks and feels. The VFR will likely replace the Vmax. I like the V4 motor but I need something that handles better. I'll miss the Vmax, but....I'm fixing the starter clutch, putting it back to stock configuration, and putting it on the block to fund this Honda. It has only 5000 miles and has had a low-speed crash. Frame is straight and motor is good, but it will not run off of choke. Needs paint. Needs a little bodywork. I think I can handle it. I'm getting it from the second owner who has had it for almost 20 years and just didn't ride it much at all. He's fairly wealthy who just moved here with a boat and ATV's and three kids...there's no time for an old motorcycle anymore, and he didn't need the money. Just wanted it gone. I shouldn't have spent the money....but it wasn't much money.

Awesome new toy, Jenn. My first bike was the wee-ceptor. The big brother is just down right sexiness.
And Mr. Bee - so far the intervention is working. So far.

Congrats. I wouldn't worry about the husband. It is okay for the wife to buy whatever she wants, but we must ask for permission to do the same...... No no no, not in this house. Hubby went to a bike rally this weekend and he knew I was looking at this bike. But we just don't have room to keep any more than we already have. I can't expect to be treated like an equal rider if I don't adhere to the rules myself. So something has to go, and I think it will be the Vmax, as much as I love the heart of that bike. I hope I can find parts for it cheap....the petcock rebuild kit seems to be made of unobtainium...

AWESOME!!! another NH/VFR owner!
you will LOVE the bike. i'm not sure i'm qualified to give that advice though - since i've ridden mine a total of 30 miles. the gear whine is something else!
if you need any pics of a stock example with no fairings on it let me know. i've been cleaning mine up, and haven't put the fairings back on yet so now is the time.
i took the CBR to the dragon last month. i think the next time i go, so will the VFR.
p.s. when i was looking at VF500's and VF(R)700's, the primary reason was for the v-4 motor. i was looking at sabres as well, but a nice vfr came along first. as far as vfr's went, the secondary idea was to get a RWB... but now i have two blue/grey bikes (CBR as well)

That is an awesome bike and I completely get getting a bike in your head and sooner or later it will end up in your garage. Repeat to self, stay away from craigslist, stay away from craigslist.
I got a 90 suzuki DR350S at a good price last thursday that runs good but is a bear to start. One side of me is screaming STUPID and the other side is cooing this could be really cool. There is a slew of options for hot rodding it too.
