Does anyone else throw on a balaclava when the temps drop? I bought this week and threw it on when the temp was 36 deg F and the difference was day and night! So much more comfortable, no more wind on my neck a blasting down my back a freeway speed.

I find it difficult to wear one with my head size and glasses.

I do wear a Turtlefur fleece neck and that is fantastic.

Sounds like a dickie  poke

I don't wear a balaklava while riding -- my jacket's neck is tight enough that I don't have wind blowing down my back. But I do wear one when deer hunting and I really like it.

Actually a dickey is the false front of a shirt that is typically covering the exposed V of an shirt neck opening or jacket. It's not the same as a neck gator. I have a huge box crammed full of them in the theatre costume room and there's about a bazillion different variations.

I wear one when the temps demand it- and it makes a huge difference once the temps drop.

I would do terrible things for my Schampa. http://www.schampa.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=69

It totally changed my outlook on riding. Cold wind just can't get through it.

In the winter, grabbing the bike keys comes AFTER grabbing my Pharoah Balaclava.

It is very thin and actually blocks the wind, like leather but breathable. I've had lots of scarves, cotton, wool and synthetuic balaclavas. The Schampa Warmskin gear tops all.

I must live a sheltered life - I never heard of these big fashion words  wacko  SOQS says I have the style of Fred Sanford - I take that as a compliment.   happy1

My head doesn't get cold, but my neck does.  I have a fleece that can be zipped up my neck - it helps a great deal.

I use a Sliks helmet liner year round, and a Schampa bandito facemesk (actually a summer one according to them) thing when wind chill becomes an issue.

I've tried heavier things, but they are too warm and cause fogging for me.

When I read the title of this I was thinking this was going to be a thread about a Greek pastry....... ooppps.

My husband has a leather one similar to the ones posted.  Personally I think it is hard to breath through, but the ones pictured here look more comfortable.  May have to look into one for both of us.

 giggle

Balaclava, gator, panier, jabots and ascots and stomachers and lesser known things...

BTW, a Pannier is a misspelling of panier. Panier is French for 'bread basket.' It is also not pronounced how americans say the word.
