Came home from work tonight and did a slow speed, tight turn in the garage...just like I've done hundreds of times before. Today, I went just a bit wide and looked like I was going to clip the trailer parked in the garage. Grabbed the front brake and -- BAM!! -- bike on the ground. Turned the bike off and muscled it back upright. This time it went down on the left side. Only damage was to my windscreen, which now sports a 6" vertical crack. I pried apart the crack with a knife, dripped in some epoxy glue I had around the house and held it together. Hopefully the repair will take -- I don't look forward to rides in 30* weather with no windscreen. I can't believe this: 2 years of riding and 10,000 miles under my belt without the slightest ding. And in the last 2 weeks I've put the bike on the ground twice.

my father learned that again...after 35 ish years of riding, he was going around the corner on our road, and they had put sand down instead of gravel, he got a little loose, grabbed his front break, and put his left leg down, it jammed his knee. he was hurtin after that day of riding.... careful with that front break.

These things come in threes. Go out side right now and push over your bike. Get that third one out of the way. At least you didn't hurt yourself trying to stop it or something.

Yeah, this is a case where covering the front brake is probably not advisable. The worst part is if you didn't look, you'd probably have cleared it fine. It's that leap of faith in not looking while so, so close that is really unnerving...

Almost happened to me a couple times recently. Both times were in the late afternoons, and I was hot & fatigued.
On my previous bike, I let the clutch slip from my fingers while the wheel was turned, in a parking lot. Kaboom, I was on the ground with the bike. I was under the influence of 5mg Zyrtec antihistamine. Never again ride after taking antihistamines, no matter how small the pill.
Just be glad it happened at ultra-low speeds.

Yeah, this is a case where covering the front brake is probably not advisable. Yeah, SOQS came home about 10 minutes after I did this. I told her what happened. A graduate of the same MSF course as me (but not a current rider herself), she said, "I thought they told us not to do that." Thanks for the shoulder to cry on, honey.
