I bought an '82 450 earlier this summer. It developed a faulty main switch which would turn lights off randomly, and not start occasionally. The repair shop I took it to said they no longer made switches for this bike. I jumped on JCWhitney.com and bought a switch for a 650 to try that out.
I've compared the wiring diagrams between the two bikes (the original switch has 6 contacts, the new one has 5) and can seem to get everything to work except for the following:
The right turn signal does not flash.
The brake light works, but the tail running light does not.
Wiring Diagrams came from this site:
http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#classThis is how I have it currently wired on the new switch:
ON: Red+Black, Brown+Brown/White
PARK: Black/White+Brown/White (the park position now acts as an engine kill)
OFF: no connections made
The green wire is disconnected. On the original switch, the green wire was only used in the off position to complete the circuit for the engine kill.
Any ideas why the turn signal and tail light won't work?
