I looked at a 84 black and red 700s thats all original, with new tires and no paint fading. it runs good and the guy was asking 2200 and he is down to 1800 now, what do you guys think?

I take it the bike runs good? If it does, sounds like a decent deal to me. Go for it.

 welcome
In this neck of the woods, if there are no nasty issues (rust, leaking/burning oil etc.) that would be a good price.

That said, if you want to take a gamble... prices won't go up till Spring, may lower...

I honestly can't recall anyone here ever regretting the purchase price after owning this model for a short while.

i stole my pristine '84 for that price.  mine's not all original though - i wish it were.  i'll spend around $500 getting the proper exhaust, windscreen, and turn signals.  the big caveat here is that it runs well.  give it a good once-over and like many happy owners here will tell you - you can't go wrong with a well-maintained 700S

i've got two '84's with similar mileage (close to 40k each) and no oil leaks to speak of... i'm not sure what common oil leak issues there are for any year of the nighthawk S.  since the engine is hanging out there in the open, check everywhere for leaks!
