I had a pair of battery operated socks once...they worked well but went through batteries pretty quickly and that adds up $$$.  Maybe you could figure out some way to hardwire them.

If the gloves use 3 AA batteries, they are 1.5V each, and if they are wired in series, the gloves require 4.5V of power. Could use a step-down DC transformer.

Battery cost is not a problem since riding in winter will only be a few times and rechargeable batts will do just fine , i was more concerned as to how well they heat up / work.

The socks I had looked totally different, but they worked very well. It took them a bit to produce enough heat for my feet to be "warm" but once they got there they were nice and toasty.  smiler
