Still have my helmet

Greetings all, I recently purchased a few items for my Scorpion 700 "Crack Head" helmet, and wanted to share some notes.
I have two helmets, the Scorpion I've had for about a year, and a newer O'Neal. Even though I wear the O'Neal most of the time now, I still really like the fit of the old Scorpion better, so I decided to buy a couple of items to make it a little more versatile, with mixed results.
First - new liner and cheekpad kit. I have big ole round head, so I was already sporting the XL size Scorpion helmet. Still found the cheekpads too tight, always felt like my face was squeezed into a permanent pucker. So, since the liners and cheekpads snap out and in so easy, I purchased a set of their XXL pads. Turns out the shell of the helmet is the same for XL and XXL, just the pads changed. I found the perfect mix for me was the XL size liner, with the XXL size cheekpads, which are slightly thinner. Great fit now, and easily reversible.
Second - Chin Skirt. Tried to find a picture to post, but oddly enough a Google search of "Scorpion helmet chin skirt" brings up only a different looking item. Anyway, it's cheap ( I paid $8) and effective. Keeps my chin and lower face warmer, fits in the helmet perfectly Will make this a better cool/cold weather helmet as I remember getting a lot of cold air from under the helmet last winter.
Third - Photochromic face shield - Ah, here's the one I've been waiting to vent on. It sucks. Plain ole does not work. If you're not familiar with photo chromatic or "photochromic" as Scorpion calls it, it's a face shield that is supposed to lighten or darken with exposure to sunlight. The idea is it would be clear at night, but darken substantially in a daytime ride. Simply does not work. I took off my clear shield and snapped the photochromic one in place yesterday. Nice and sunny yesterday. Went for a ride, shield didn't do squat. Completely useless, waste of money. I bought it on eBay, so I immediately e-mailed the seller, and said "are you sure you didn't accidentally ship me a clear shield?". His reply? "Yes I sent you the photochromic one, but I'm giving you a full refund because multiple people have complained that they don't work".
Still love my helmet, although the fact that a 46 year old is wearing a helmet with skulls and such on it inspires amusement from my wife and co-workers.

How much was a new set of pads? You did good with the shell sizes.....most don't know there are just a few and the pads make the rest. This stuff is the bomb for your shields, I doubt I'll ever have to buy another shield. http://freckleface.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/plasticpolish.html

Good reviews on all the products. Also it's nice to see some people on eBay still have decent customer service.

Yep, all the pads are still in great shape, I tend to take good care of my gear, especially gear protecting my noggin!! Great suggestion on the Novus plastic polish, I'm a loyal user as well. I have a bottle of the stage 1 cleaner, and the stage 2 fine polish in my garage now. Didn't know there was a heavy polish, I need to get a bottle of that. Not for my face shields, but for another vehicle. New Enough has the cheekpads available by themselves for $12, or complete liner kits starting at about $30 http://www.newenough.com/street/helmets_and_eyewear/replacement_cheek_pads_liners_crown_pads/scorpion/

Yes, the heavy #3 scratch remover (not really as coarse as you'd think) is the perfect start before #2 and 1.

Photochromic lenses in glasses have a break in period. Maybe the same is true with your shield? What I found somewhere on the net about it. It takes several exposures to sunlight before a new pair of photochromic lenses will darken and lighten as designed. Allow your lenses to be exposed to sunlight at least five periods of 30 minutes or longer to "break-in" the photochromic process.

Good info, I have not heard or read that anywhere. Maybe I need to give it a few more days to "learn" day from night!
