The '82 CB650SC model was made only one year.  The next model was all different made from '83 to '85.  Find one for a '82 on Ebay, it may take a while, the offerings change often.  Or repair options are POR-15 tank liner or take to a radiator repair shop.

It's much easier to rebuild the petcock than find a new gas tank.

 welcome

+1 on Remove/rebuild/reinstall the petcock

Check the service manual for the proper routing of the clutch cable

replace both fork seals... if one is bad, the other will be following it shortly...

change the oil and filter...

and you should be able to safely ride off into the sunset...

clean and service the hydraulics system including all new brake fluid and then bleed the master cylinder and caliper(s) for the brakes while you are at it.

If you discover any other possible problems, you have come to the right place for advice

Newby here in CT.

I just rescued an 82, 750 from a snow bank. Of course the fuel tank is no good. Will the 1983 thru 85 fuel tanks fit the 82?  Or, will they fit if you use the newer side overs with then?

Not allot of 82 parts out there. At this point it looks like I will have to cut the existing tank in half to remove the peeling previous coating, cut out all the bad spots, and weld it all back together. Doable but labor intensive.

Appreciate any feedback.

I'm betting the '82 and '83 fuel tanks are similar, if not identical, though the part numbers are different. The 700/750 underwent a complete redesign for '84, it's completely different.

Looks like a lot to chose from.  http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=honda+nighthawk+650+gas+tank&_sacat=&_sop=10&_odkw=honda+nighthawk+650&_osacat=0&bkBtn=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313

One company thinks that all of the Nighthawk 650s use the same tank.

Contact them to be sure.

That's for the 650. A few posts back we switched to the 750.
