Ha-- as a new rider, I find riding 65 mph on a CB450SC without a windshield in no wind, just being buffeted by the air, to be challenging enough.

I hear you. I got my bike in April 2009 and did my first commute a week or so later. I was so excited to be riding (and such a noob) that I didn't bother checking the weather. Well, it turned out that we were expecting 50 mph wind gusts that day. I rode home (with no windshield and a paper-thin leather jacket) terrified every time a wind gust hit me

Then I got home, calmed down...and couldn't wait to do it again.  winker

Yikes-- 50 mph winds-- that must have been wild.  I went over an overpass and got nudged by a bit of wind and that was scary enough.

And yes, even though the first few excursions onto the freeway were nerve-wracking, it was also thrilling.  I had to keep reminding myself not to get caught up in the feeling and pay close attention to safety issues.

My first time out on the freeway hitting 70mph on a motorcycle, I was like "holy crap!, this is the greatest thing in the world!"  I couldn't believe I'd waited so long to start riding.

Back in my teens I learned to ride on my buddy's Yamaha 175 Enduro. I once took it out on the highway and opened it up. The wind blasted in my ears, my eyes watered and I was petrified. Then I looked down at the speedo: 45 mph.

I had a Honda 175 enduro back in my teens and I too took it onto the highway and opened her up. At WOT and going slightly down hill I managed 65...after about 20 min the bike seized up  yikes tires screeching (mine and the cars behind me) managed to get from the middle lane to the emergency lane with out getting killed. Stopped the bike and just sat there going over in my mind what just happened.

20 min latter I was able to start the bike (it must of just died on me) and went on my mary little way. three months latter I sold the bike and didn't ride again until I was 45.  eek7

I Hit some strong constant winds yesterday on my way to get high temp lube and brake cleaner.  Although I didn't move into on coming traffic, I was close. All I could think of when I stopped was the colour brown, and what was in my pants, and how much I didn't want to ride home.
These farmland out here offer no break from wind for miles and miles.  I was very happy to have my gear on and knew that although it would hurt, I'd come out of it if it happened.

a little more experience for this new rider.

Maybe?
I don't know how fast the wind was but I I now know that I should check the report before I ride.
