Today after we went to
chur... erm... an unmentionable Sunday morning event, my wife tells me, "Let's go riding."
She doesn't know where she wants to go, she just wants to go riding.
So we look at Google Maps and decide to head on over to Hoover Dam.
For those of you who don't know what Hoover Dam is, it's a very big and very famous dam at the base of Lake Mead between Nevada and Arizona.
The Colorado River comes out of it.
The dam is about 30 miles from where we live.
So we hop on the bike in this beautiful chilly weather and head out.
They have just finished building a huge bridge over the dam so people don't have to drive directly over the dam anymore.
The dam is no longer a through street (at least, not right now.)
It is a destination as opposed to a thoroughfare.
So we took the exit, passed the security checkpoint, and went over the dam.
We went up a big hill and parked at the end of a loop to rest and take pictures at the lookout.
The concrete on the bottom right is the Lake Mead side of the Dam.
The concrete bridge on the top left is their awesome new bypass bridge.

Here's a picture of us at the lookout:

We passed back over the dam and took some pictures at a lookout point.
This picture is of the Colorado River side of the dam. The mountain in the background (the one that's not blue) is near where we took the last pictures.

Here's a picture of the spectacular new bridge.
Like I said before, it is all concrete. It really is neat to see a concrete bridge that is so big.

Here's the star of the show, the Little-Hawk-That-Could. He proudly and strongly carries us wherever we want to go.

And here's a picture of my wife, my chipmunk cheeks, and me in front of the bridge.

After we did this, we hopped back out on the main road and rode over the bridge. You can't see the dam from the bridge.
There is a place where you could get out and walk across the bridge, but we didn't realize we missed it until we were already headed back.
We made it back into town just fine, and had a great ride.
My wife did her first 100 mile ride today (well, actually it was only 99, but ssshhhh...

) and she also made it into another state for the first time.
This is the first time I've been to Arizona on a bike, so I can add that one to the map.
It was windy, but other than that, we had a great, memorable ride!
