This is a trip I took in October 2006 -

I started in Lakewood (a western Denver suburb) and drove through Morrison to Evergreen (my favorite tune up ride). From Evergreen I headed west on the Squaw Pass- this road goes from Evergreen, up, up past Mount Evans, the down to Idaho Springs.

The aspens were in full color today and the temps almost perfect- 85 in Denver and 53 at the top of the pass (11,000 feet) with partly cloudy skies.

My photos are all along the pass, taken from the road.

My first stop was just a few miles out of Evergreen on Squaw Pass. A beautiful open space (public area) -

Then I rode up and up, twisties the whole way.

Ahh, the aspens!

Then I contiued on, what a beautiful day indeed! I stopped at meadow edge for photos, as did everyone in the area.

here's a panoramic I stitched together-

I left there and stopped at a much higher lookout- the view was incredible-

I contined onward and upward and started to see snow-

This the view from a ski area I was looking down upon (where the cars are in the pic above)

Too much Gatorade and I'm in the forest to, uh, visit. As I came out the view uphill was rather nice-

I met some nice folks who took my photo at my next stop-

Here's the valley without my helmet blocking the view-

I continued on past the top and started down. I stopped at this small lake for another pic-

Then I drove the next 25 min into Idaho Springs. This was a great part of the ride, but there were few places to stop and It was getting late. At Idaho Springs I got on I-70 and drove KLR warp speed (80-85 mph) back to Denver.

This has to be one of the best local day trips I have done yet.
