I'm looking for a pair of overpants.  I am looking at textile material.  Must have side zippers for easy on/off and a removable liner for cold/warm weather riding.  Also, must be mostly waterproof (I don't ride in the rain but we all get caught by the occasional surprise storm).  If anyone owns overpants that fit this description and can let me know how you like 'em, It'd be much appreciated! Thanks!

No liner on these, I just add sweat pants if needed:

Tried to sell them last Spring but I'm glad I didn't, they are serving me well again this Winter.

I have Olympia Airglides, not cheap but I have worn them with the liner down to mid 30's without the liner and into temps over 100. The liner is waterproof, not the pant.
Pockets are deep (front and rear), full side zippers, and the knee armor can be adjusted for height.

I've been looking at those as well.  I may just have to pick up a pair over the winter.

I have some Moto GP fabric overpants with liner.
They have some problems that you should try to avoid.

1.  They are slick and allow me to slide around the bike when riding.... not real bad, but I'm not as secure as I would like.
I think some pants have less slick panels sewn into the inner thigh areas of the pant legs for a better grip.

2.  When the cold weather liner is removed, the securing Velcro "hooks" are left in the pant legs to catch my socks when donning the pants.
They should have used the Hook Velcro on the liners and the softer Velcro in the pants.

I agree with a reply above, get pants and use thermal pants underneath in cold weather.

Ride Safely,

I was going to order a pair of Tourmaster textile overpants with side zippers, but after reading the reviews, 90% of the people complained that the zippers sucked.

Some reviews of the FirstGear HT overpants look positive.

Motodirect has the perfect set of commuter overpants, side zippers, waterproof, insulated liners, CE armor, etc, for an excellent price, but they only have size medium and don't know when the next shipment is coming in. Something about customs issues in Pakistan.

I thought I wanted some with side zippers, but I find it much easier to just take my riding boots off with my overpants when I get to work and slip on the work shoes I have under my desk.  It takes much too long to try and monkey with the zipper and then pull the pants over my riding boots.

You are correct about that. I have a pair of summer Fieldsheer overpants with zippers as well as a pair of leathers with zippers. After screwing around, I have found a fuss-free method: Before unbuttoning anything, pull the zippers up to about 6 inches from the waist, leave them there. Unbutton the ankles and waist, then remove your feet from each leg without taking the boots off. Putting them on is reversed.

Downsides? If you suffer from Dunlap Disease like I do, you might faint while bent over to get the buckles snapped.

For cold weather, I have a full Olympia suit, so i really can't offer a review of overpants, except to say i wish someon made some winter capable overpants that had a zipper design like my pair of summer overpants.  I have a pair of Alpinestars mesh overpants for summer that have a zipper on each leg that starts at the outside ankle, coming stright up the side to just above the knee.  Then, the zipper goes across the front of the thigh to the inside of your leg, and stops there.  Here is a pic

Great feature, makes getting into and out of them super easy.  Not sure if anyone makes winter weight overpants with this style zipper, but it's a great feature!

I am thinking about picking up a pair of Alpinestars Air-Flo as well... Can you tell me how do they fit as overpants in terms of sizing?  I would like to wear them over khakis or jeans to the office as well as over a pair of shorts in the summer.  I wear 33 waist and 32 inseam in regular pants and was wondering what size to get so that they are comfortable as overpants.

Another question - with these types of mesh pants, can you wear them just over a pair of boxers as well?

I wouldn't recommend just wearing boxers underneath overpants...at a minimum I would suggest gym shorts.  I usually wear jeans or khakis under mine.

It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't shave your legs.

My usage of the Alpinestars is as overpants over the khakis I typically wear to work, I wear 34 waist, 32 inseam, and I have the pants in XL, and they fit perfect.  Have also worn them over cargo shorts and similar, and they worked well for that as well.  Haven't tried them with boxers, tighty-whiteys, or even, ahem, commando. yikes

I am between 32 and 33 waist and 32 inseam and considering Large (based on Alpinestars chart) for Air Flo pants to be used as overpants for khakis and shorts... Now I wonder if I should bump up to XL.  I don't want them to be too loose if I wear them over a pair of gym shorts in the summer though.  Hmmm...  That's the problem when ordering online where returns are a hassle and cost money usually.

I wear fieldsheer overpants that tie into my jacket. They're great. Textile material, CE rated armor in the knees, side zippers, water resistant (which I can vouch for), and have removable winter liners. I'd have to look up the official name but they should be easy to find. I bought them at motorcycle-superstore.com and they were just a little over $100.
