My bike is a 1983 Honda Nighthawk CB650SC- I pulled the carbs out to give em a good cleaning and now putting them back together I noticed that the hoses that I believe are for vacuum reference were just tucked under the seat in between the frame and led no where. I remember reading somewhere that they are supposed to go into the air box but I cant find any fittings for them to go on to. are these just a atmospheric pressure port or are they in fact some kind of vacuum reference? Theres a photo below I found while searching for the answer that shows what hoses im talking about. I feel like it must be a stupid simple answer since I cant find anything anywhere online.

I'm not familiar with those carbs so can't say for sure.

Are they California carbs?

Might be a sticker inside one of the side covers showing the proper hose routing.

Actually those are my pictures. They are VB44A carburetors that go on an 82 CB650, not an 83. (and they are not california stuff either)

Those hoses are air vent lines, not vacuum lines, that regulate air pressure going to the top of the float chambers. The top T fitting in the picture goes back to a fitting on the top front side of the air box. The purpose is to create a stable ambient air pressure across the top portion of all 4 float chambers. There's some other indirectly related plumbing going on also that if the hoses are missing or cracked, mileage typically drops by 50% and you'll be doing good to milk it above about 45-47mph. They also crack and have to be replaced every 5-10 years depending on the environment. (I'm working on a pennytech solution but it's on hold until they irritate me again)

I'm not sure about other year model carburetors though some vent to atmosphere directly, others, who knows what.
