Hey everybody, Im still pretty new here. I hope im posting this in the right place. My dilemma is this, I bought my bike (84 700s) with the speedo and tach needles broken off. they were stubby but I could still read the guages easily. Just before putting my bike up for the winter it started to produce a high pitch whine at any speed. Which was very irritating and a bit embarassing while riding through town. I removed my speedo cable and sprayed some lube in the cable and into the backside of the speedo, under the direction of forum members. This however did not fix my problem, and the horrible whine continues, and my speedo reading is in and out, it will show the speed and the whine starts up, then it drops to zero and the whine stops. Im assuming this means that the gauge is a lost cause.
after calling local salvage yards and scouring ebay. I am unable to find a direct replacement. Can a gauge from a more common bike, or an aftermarket gauge, be used in its place? parts for this bike are seemingly pretty difficult to come-by.
