Well I'm at about $2,000 of my $5,000 goal of getting an R6. Thinking about how fast and dangerously I'll be driving on a sports bike, I though I'd get a new helmet with a bit more protection

http://www.galls.com/google/style.html?assort=general_catalog&cat=&style=TE193

What do you think? I think I'm sold on the idea, it's perfect, I'm planning to buy it within the month

Remember your thread about wearing a football helmet?  Expect the same exact answer here.  Wear a motorcycle helmet.

Also note that a sport bike can be ridden in a safe, responsible manner.  Heck, last I heard the R6 is downright underpowered below 6000 rpm.

Have you thought about how annoying those metal bars across you vision will be? Bug guts are bad enough and they can be wiped away to some degree. not to mention with that price tag, you can buy a nice m/c specific helmet or even a couple of nicer less expensive helmets.

+1 on the above, for what you would pay for that helmet you could get a very nice MC helmet that will protect you much better.

I gotta ask...There is no way you can be serious about wearing a Corrections Officer riot helmet while riding a bike, right? I mean, why on earth would you want to spend $350.00 on a helmet like that when you can get a motorcycle specific for way less. Plus, I have worn those helmets before and the visibility is horrible. This is a joke, right?  puzzled

Just sayin... scratcher

The link claims the helmets are DOT/SNELL impact rated. That being said, WTF? Really?

They're no worse than a Nighthawk at low RPMs, but there's a solid kick at 5500 and a huge kick at 10,000. 130mph comes reeeeeal quick. Don't ask how I know.

Looks like a modified bike helmet.  Still don't know why you would want it over a normal helmet.

Some people can't handle "normal." Everything must be "modified" to be cool. I believe that's why we see people molesting otherwise nice bikes with cutting wheels and angle grinders.

I'll go out and say if that's what you dig , go for it as it is DOT approved and and it doesn't matter what others think , be sure to let us know how it works out and some  aparat too.

For sure, it's gotta be heavy as heck and I have serious doubts about the hinging mechanism (as I do about ALL helmets with hinging chin bars, but that's just me seeing too many flip-up helmets in pieces to trust 'em)....but if you really like it, go for it, please follow up with a review!

Unless you are planning on riding with these guys, I'd strongly recommend a dedicated motorcycle helmet -

You will look like an idiot, and like someone who's compensating for a small p*nis.  Moreover, if you *do* have an accident in that thing, and you end up sliding along, and something *catches* one of those face bars, you might twist your head off!

Be smart about your gear, not fashionable.

I don't really understand what this has to do with anything?  scratcher  Usually we try to avoid comments like that on the forum, they really aren't effective at making a point.  Also consider who you're talking to, Hendricks may have some crazy ideas, but I'm pretty sure we all did when we were 17 years old!  Not trying to pick a fight, just saying we can all communicate like adults and keep this forum the great, friendly place that we all love.  thumb

It's just a modular MC helmet that has extra bars pop-riveted to the shield.

Get a better and cheaper MC helmet then take it to a window tinting place and have them add bars with reflective tinting if that's what you want.

Heck, for $350 you could get a very good helmet and then take it to a custom pain shop to have something really cool done to it.

This.

Here are some examples of what you can do with real motorcycle helmets that will boost your ego:

The OP's last posts involved ditching a NH in need of a brake MC at most, an impact driver at least. I think he returned here to think about the helmet, but considering that $350 is a very large chunk of the cash he needs for that R6 he wants, I don't think he's going to buy it.
I think he's going to get a cheapie but DOT approved HJC or Vega or something (fine helmets, BTW) and get on with it.

I know he's young and I pity any rider stuck in HI, I rode there and found it oppressively small, but I don't think ya'll need to get all worked up over this. In fact, an R6 IMO is just about suited to HI....

Really cool helmets that obviously have nothing at all to do with motorcycles sold right here. naughty
