I had been looking for these saddle bags for over 10 years. Bought them on ebay back in October and finally got them installed today. My commute will be so much easier!

That looks pretty good. Are they easy to take on and off? Locking I assume? Also is the inside of the cases lined or padded? What I really like about those cases is that they are narrow. I don't like the look of the modern wide cases even if they are more practical.

Nice find!
And a Corbin seat as well. How long have you had your '86?

fishball, I have the same bags, and can answer some of your questions. Yes they lock, both TO the bike, and also each case locks. No, they are not padded inside, but they do have elastic straps to help hold things in place. Here is a pic of the inside. Here is the thread of my install. http://nighthawk-forums.com/index.php/topic,7033.0.htmlenesset, great find. I probably don't have to tell you how rare those bags are. I have used the heck out of mine. What are your plans for rear turns? I notice you don't have your stockers relocated to the tabs on the frame. Different plans?

Thanks for the info lefty. Does anyone have a photo from the back of the bike? Curious to see how wide it makes the 700s with the bags on.

This CB700sc is my third bike. I started out in 1991 with a 1976 Kawasaki KZ 750, then it died after a few short months then I got a 1983 Nighthawk 750 and then a year or so later in 1993 i traded that '83 hawk when I found this red/white/blue '86. I had always wanted a CB700sc growing up and for years I used this as a daily commute when I lived in Oakland and commuted into downtown SF. Right now my garage consists of this and my other 2 wheeled toy is a '98 Ducati 916 I bought back in 2003. My total mileage now is slightly under 50,000 and it has always run like a swiss watch. Its got a Dynojet "jet" kit, that Vance and Hines pipe (which looks terrible) that corbin seat, a K&N Filter and other than the new saddle bags I believe that is it for mods.

You've had it for over 17 years? What took you so long to get here? Nice background info, feel free to slap in a pic of the Duc aswell if you like It seems we both started riding in the same year, ha. So no major repairs or maintenance in those 50.000mls?

I remember seeing a red 84 700S with Hondaline saddlebags for $1200. I still kick myself for not getting it. They look awesome on your bike.

No mechanical issues in the nearly 50,000 miles (can't speak for the first owner) but I've had it for years and years and its just been a "honda" dead reliable. Real frequent oil changes, shaft oil, just this past year I replaced the front fork seals.
The Ducati 916 is different all together. I commuted from Oakland to San Francisco for probably the better part of 15 months on it and I wager I went through $1,800 every 6 months on maintenance.
You had asked about the Duc, I'll see if I can put a picture of a few toys (my '69 bronco towing my bikes).
As for not being on the "board" I've got a lot of interests and work a lot so I'm just not a big "board contributer" but our friend with the Red CB700SC was very helpful to me and his bike looks awesome with the three bag set up so I thought I"d take some time and do a few posts. Having an active community like this is very helpful. I also prowl the Early Bronco forums a lot looking for ideas as I"ve renovated that rig.

Hey man, glad it worked out for you. Glad you got the bags considering how that auction was progressing. I thought for sure you were bidding against a ghost

I believe that other bidder was a ghost and or a flaky bidder. I should have stopped at $400 and then sniped at the last 5 seconds. I just wanted those bags so bad I let common sense get the better of me and I was just SUPER lucky the other bidder didn't have a super high "final bid" keyed in.

How much different are these bags vs the stock honda silverwing bags. They look awfully close and could be adapted.

I haven't seen (in the flesh) any other Hondaline bags, but it seems this topic did come up before. I think the challenge would be fabricating the brackets to match the mounting points on the Nighthawk. The bags themselves are probably very similar, but the brackets and mounting frame are ( I would think) very bike specific. I've got some pics on Google Picasso of the frames and mounting points. Feel free to compare to the bags you referring to. https://picasaweb.google.com/hirammcdaniel6/HondaNighthawkS#5525462885718902322You should be able to click through this album to see multiple pics of the bags and how they are mounted,

yes. the nighthawk 550 is shaft as well as the 650 years 83-85 as well as that model which is the 700 S years 84-86. good reliable bikes with different personalities for different people.
