Hey all, long time...
I'm in the market for a new jacket; black leather with a classic/old school look with none of that flashy design logo stuff; kinda like a Marlon Brando or Steve McQueen style. (Too many folks on sport bikes wearing those futuristic alien looking jackets... don't really want to follow the heard ya know?...). I can afford $300 max.
I've been reading reviews on websites but wanted to get your thoughts, recommendations, experiences, etc...
Thanks!

Most people here have had extremely positive experiences with MotorcycleGear.com (used to be NewEnough.com). Extremely great prices, communication, service, and shipping speed.

Hein Gericke makes very nice leather jackets without all the pomp and circumstance. Not sure if you can get a new one for $300 or not. I've seen some on ebay.

Well, I have been riding with a Leather Alpinestars Black Label jacket for a couple of years now and I love it. It has simple styling and is very comfortable. Unfortunately they no longer make the exact same model, however their Barcelona jacket is very similar. http://www.alpinestars.com/Barcelona_Jacket/pd/c/121/np/121/p/310087.html I know the list price is above your limit, but with some searching I suspect you could find one in your price range. Also, with Alpinestars companies cannot advertise below the list price, but often will sell at a discounted prices. I like the all black better, but here is the red. Good Luck

I bought a Tourmaster Coaster II from NewEnough/MotorcycleGear.com and I love it. Comfortable, armored, warm, and has plenty of ventilation for hotter days. It's got a removable liner, which really helps the temperature range. Cost $215, under your limit.

I'm currently using this jacket got it from wilsons leather . Wilsons usually has thinner fashion jackets , but if you look on their site they do have a section for just riding jackets , I LOVE this jacket . The picture doesn't do it justice , it doesn't have armor but it's vented front and back , perforated leather in the wrists when you unzip them , zip out liner , and most importantly it doesn't make you look like a power ranger , I wanted a jacket I could also wear around when not on the bike and this one fits the bill perfectly . I think they're usually around $240 but wilsons has a sale every other week , when I showed up at the store they only had the non zip out liner version despite having told me that they had the one I was looking for when I called , so I had to drive to another store , but they gave me a coupon so I ended up only paying $140 which was more than fine by me . I was going to go with the tourmaster coaster 2 with white stripes but I figured I'd look goofy just casually wearing it what with all the armor , not to mention the fact that there's like 3 wilsons near me so I could actually go try them on instead of having to ship back 2 jackets that don't fit at my own expense ....I'm kind of weird shaped so it's next to impossible for me to buy leather mail order . http://www.wilsonsleather.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3452009&cp=2446814.2013496&view=all&parentPage=familyPS. it's about time new enough changed their name , I always thought it made them sound like they only sell used gear .

I wear my Coaster II all the time. It's really quite comfortable.

all my other armored jackets give off the football padding effect which I feel looks weird as casual wear , perhaps the coaster 2 is better about it , but my tourmaster mesh jacket with the armor in makes me look like a freakin super hero. Plus nowhere had any coaster 2's to try on and I refuse to mail order leather anymore after having to pay to ship 4 non fitting (despite fitting me on their charts) jackets back .

My armor makes me look like a superhero too, but it also makes me act like a superhero...I don't know what else you would call being able to walk away from a 60mph head on with a sedan.

I'll be able to tell you this spring. It should be able to keep me quite cool. Its got four pocket vents on the front, arm vents, expandable sleeve ends, and two big vents on the back. When I tried it out it moved quite a bit of air, but it was cold out so that test ended shortly. They are supposed to run a bit tight, so I bought a size bigger than called for.

I've bought apparel from Motodirect, and have been very satisfied with their products. Prices are very good, can't be beat. Leatherup has some good choices too.

Found my jacket. A friend was looking to get rid of his Brando style Triumph jacket. Traded my old blue leather Joe Rocket for it.
