I had a great ride today on the Talimena Trail, a road through the Ouachita Mountains in AR and OK.  I know some of our forum members are familiar with this road.  Not exactly the Rockies at an elevation of 3,000 feet or so, but spectacular views anyway.   The ride covered 260 miles from New Boston, TX to Mena, AR across the TM trail into OK and down US 259 to DeKalb, TX and quick 10 miles back home.  1st stop AR state line.

This was just 10 miles from home, where the sun was shining brightly.  A look north and I knew I would see some rain.  Rode about 5 miles through a light shower and saw mostly brilliant sun and high 70's the rest of the day.

The town of Mena has a pop. of about 6,000, but on a great fall afternoon it seems much busier than most towns this size.  Mena is at the foot of Rich Mt.  This old gas station has been restored to look like it did back in the '50's.

Anybody remember when gas was this cheap?  When I first rode a mc at age 15 I think it was about 30 cents.

I took a few pics of the fall foliage while risking my life dodging hellbent leaf peepers.  There were busloads of people out looking today.  I narrowly escaped the rear bumper of lady intent on backing out from a scenic vista at the speed of light in a SUV.  She missed me by a few feet and wouldn't even acknowledge me as she spun gravel getting out of there.  Here's one death defying pic.

At the summit of Rich Mt. sits Queen Wilhamena Lodge.  It's run by the state and has rooms to rent and a restuarant with a great view and buffet.  At 3ish this afternoon it was packed with hungry leaf lookers, so we took a quick break and moved on.  Tons of bikes there today.

A few miles west of the Lodge we hit OK.  Fantastic scenery from the road here but I didn't stop for many more pics.

Coming down in elevation the road had some great twisties, but not many pics to choose from.

My riding buddy on the GW trike does a good job with the curves, and it seemed like we must have hit a few thousand of them today.  I couldn't resist blasting  away at times and then slowing to let Jim catch up.  When we ride long stretches of straight road the GW shines, but the NH conquers the curves.  We finished the ride about 8pm so the bright lights of the GW were helpful.  A great riding day!

Will do Mark.  When you can ride again and the weather is right maybe we can ride up to Talimena.  Hang in there man.
