I just bought a 1986 VF500F Interceptor project bike. I picked it up last Tuesday, and after tearing into the carbs and cleaning them out (they sat full of gas for 3 years), I put them back on yesterday. After installing carbs on various other 2 and 4 cylinder bikes, I thought "hey, no big deal", I was wrong. V4 carbs are a pain in the a** to install, and require the gentle persuasion of a 2X4 and a hammer. After they got on, and fuel fed into them, the bike fired right up (new battery), and purrs like a kitten. The only thing I may not be able to salvage is the fuel tank, as it also sat for 3 years with about 1/2 gallon of fuel in it, but I'm going to try my hardest to save it. I'm not sure whether or not this will be a temporary or permanent stablemate yet, but I'll decide that once its rideable (within the next2 weeks hopefully).

And in case anyone is wondering, that old maple syrup can on a coat rack is actually my fuel tank for syncing carbs, and other engine work requiring the tank to be off.

How did you make that PVC external tank?  I need something of the sort and don't want to shell out money for an extra tank.

That's just a piece of pvc pipe with two pipe caps.  I'm not exactly sure what the gas line is made of though....

Clear fuel line, like that from a lawn mower or chainsaw I would suspect.

Ok, did you seal the tube in the pipe somehow or is it just stuck in there?  I just would not want gasoline dripping everywhere.

Well, the interceptor is all finished and looks pretty now. Unfortunately I have to sell it, for a couple of reasons.
1- It was a project bike to fix and sell (kinda fell in love with it though)
2- Can't afford insurance to ride both it and the Nighthawk.. and I like the hawk better.
Here are a few pics of the finished bike.

That's the first bike I every rode & owned!  Well, ok, not that exact bike, but ya.  It was so much fun, if it could've handled touring I would've kept it.

Speaking of... I still have a lower fairing in my storage.  Jeez I'm a packrat.  Hap1

Looks good.  They made those all of the way up to 1100 or 1300cc's, right?

This bike is in the second generation of VF(R) bikes, and at that time they made the 500, 750 and 1000. I'm not sure if they ever got up to 1100 or 1300. All VFR Interceptors produced now are 800cc

Very nice!  I'd love to take it for a spin from the looks of it.  I can understand why you wouldn't want to get rid of it.

I almost bought an Interceptor 750 as my first street bike. Loved 'em...great bikes. I ended up going with a 78 GS550E for my first street bike.
If I found one at the right price, I'd probably pick it up now.
