I am a new member here and new to these bikes. I have always had kzs and I had a cbr 600rr, well today I bought a 1982 nighthawk 750 it is in really good shape but I have a few concerns.... When your going down the road or even on the center stand it has a hesitation when you give it throttle my concern is the fact that the bike has after market pod air filters and to my knowledge no rejet. I was wondering if this would cause this issue and if so do you guys know what jets I should put in it and where I could go about buying them.  I am looking forward to riding this bike it is going to be main commute to work 22 miles each way I just want to get it going good before warm weather hits. Any informatiom is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Accelerator pump working properly on all 4 carburetors?
Vacuum slides moving smoothly with only spring resistance?
Jets clean?
Choke fully open?

Try to not add variables like new jets until you isolate the problem. Of course the pods might be part of the variables that you have to get around to fix the problem.
Start simple, go from there.

 welcome to the forum.

From what I have heard pods do require rejetting. But I also noticed that people tent to warn against going with pods because they are really hard to do right. The airflow to the inside pods is different than the airflow to the outside ones.

Did the bike come with the stock air box as well or is that lost? If they are lost then maybe tracking down a stock air box and boots would be easier to get running well than trying to tune the pods.

Sorry I can't help find either of these for you. The air box you could probably pick up from a junk yard on the cheep....er.

Thanks for all the great information! I would love to get the original airbox but of course they installed the pods and away with the stock. I am going to look on ebay for a stock airbox and filters. Any other information is greatly appreciated.

Welcome  wave

Yes, Pods will definitely require a re-jet. It is possible that if it has the stock jetting, then the stumble off idle is from the pilot jet being too lean. But of course, you will have to adjust all the jets if you plan to keep the pods. Otherwise, happy hunting for that stock air box. If ebay doesn't yield any results, try a cycle salvage yard.

+1

Some people put pods on bikes because they see drag bikes running them so they assume the pods will get them a bunch of new horsepower. They don't take in account the fact that drag bikes are tuned to run at one throttle setting, WFO.

Thanks guys! Theres is plenty of stock air boxs on ebay but none of them come with the rubbers that connect the carbs to the air box:( I am going to keep looking. I would also like to get a set of lower bars Not to low I just dont like the big bars on the nighthawk. Thanks for all the great info!

IMO you can't beat JC Whitney for a variety of Handlebars .  You probably want something like the "Daytona" bars.  thumb

Thanks..... There isant a buy/sell section on this forum is there? The only air box (with the rubber carb to box connections) on ebay is 80 bucks and it has holes drilled in it. If anyone here had one I would paypal the cash.

There is, but you have to have 25 posts to view it as a kind of protective measure for members. (People have been burned before, don't take it personal.)  I would reccomend just watching fleabay for one.  $80 for a modified one is too steep IMO and it might not function properly.  It's too bad you don't have a late model NH, I've got a perfectly good airbox from a '92 sitting in the garage.  Hap1

yah I thought 80 for a modified one was a little steep to I talked him into lowering the buy it now price and now its 60 plus shipping it only has one airbox cover and all four rubber carb to box connectors. I wonder if I silicon the drilled holes or find a way to seal them, the box should be good as new, right? Thanks for the info!

The airbox and rubber boots are normally sold separately on ebay... don't get burned by this one seller... just keep looking on ebay every couple of days... you will find what you are looking for for less money...

Ok thx guys. I called the guy I bought it from he swears it ran good with the pods and it sat all winter so im gonna clean the carbs up order some low bars and front brake pads and see what that does. Ohio weather sucks and really puts a damper on working on the nighthawk. Thanks for all the great info.
