I purchased a 1996 Nighthawk 750 with 10,000 miles on it.  It is very clean and has original stock exhaust.  It starts well and idles well and after about a 1.5 mile warm-up has no sag or hesitation.  However I notice that at about 55 MPH in 5th gear, if I apply some choke, say about 1/3, the engine smoothes out slightly and speeds up slightly.  Do those of you that have this model bike notice this also or do I have jets which are slightly dirty?   I wondered if the factory jetted the bike lean for emission purposes and if this might be normal?  Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Most folks do the washer mod. Put two #4 stainless washers from radio shack under the main jet needles to raise them slightly. It's easy, you don't have to pull the carbs, just the tank. I've done that and then the dyno jet. Save the money and just do the washer mod. That was my first attempt at carb work.

You should also think about running some seafood through a couple if tanks and see if it helps.

ImaPoser Stay away from shell fish these bikes tend to be allergic!!

What she meant to say is SeaFoam.

And yes these bikes are very lean. The carb Washer Mod found here is the simplest fix http://www.nighthawk750.com/mods/carbneedlemod.html it will drop your MPG some but you will get a much better running engine; it will warm up faster and respond better to the throttle.

I actually ran a quart nurse tank with about one third Seafoam and two thirds gas.  I first drained the carbs then hooked up the nurse tank and ran the bike then shut it off and let it soak the night.  Then I ran the rest of the mix through and replaced the tank with fuel and a little sea foam.  I also synched the carbs with the Carbtune device from Ireland.  I actually don't mind the way the bike runs now.  I just didn't want to hurt anything running it too lean.  If this is normal from the factory, I may just leave it alone.

Mine likes shrimp, but not raw....

I have added SeaFoam to my phone's dictionary about 5x now, and it still screws up autocorrecting.  <sigh>
