I've had two similar experiences within the last few weeks. First was a twit in a Beemer on her phone. She was going the opposite direction, making a left turn at an uncontrolled intersection. She does not even slow down, just plows through the intersection, in front of me on my bike. I braked hard and laid on the horn, but she was totally oblivious. Did not even hear/see me. The second one was a cager turning right into my lane of traffic at an intersection. She was also on the phone, and didn't hardly slow down before turning. Same thing...I had to move into the left lane (it was open) laid on the horn, and gave her the "evil eye," but she didn't even look at me. I think that if I didn't constantly play the game of "who is going to try to kill me next" when I ride, I wouldn't survive a day in this crazy town! Anyone have a solution for mounting a train horn to a Nighthawk?

Anyone have a solution for mounting a train horn to a Nighthawk? Yelp: http://nighthawk-forums.com/index.php/topic,2169.0.htmlEveryone be careful, extra vigilant and proficient out there right now. The cagers have gone completely insane. I had a seriously hammered drunk in front of me today. I'm extremely tolerant of idiot cagers however this guy was bad enough that I had no ethical choice other than to pull into a business and borrow their phone to call the force on him. Please, never ever drive anything after drinking. I don't care if someone drives yourself into a bridge piling at highway speeds, that's evolution in progress. I'm just concerned about the innocent people, myself included, that get taken out by self centered nutjobs like that. In aviation we have an 8 hour rule between drinking and flying. That's a good basic guideline for driving too.

Thanks Bumblebee! I'll be ordering one of those ASAP! Before you do that check out Autozone. They have a double electric horn that works even better. I had one of the air horns and it did not hold up. And there is a delay in the sound (doesn't start off at full volume). My roommate also had one that failed. The Autozone one works very well. The double horn setup around $25 will make cagers wet themselves. It's instantly loud and much sharper pitch than the air horn. Side by side Ari's horn blew mine out of the water. So when mine finally failed I replaced it with the electric one.

(I'm always in search of the best soundproof cage penetrating cardiac arrest inducing device I can find - there are three loud fiaams on the front of the motorhome though I'm thinking about something really obnoxious if those ever fail) I've heard stebel's have had problems with failures related to the air pump. I wonder if it's related to mounting orientation or pulling in dirty air during blasts. I've been using mine about 2-3 times a week on average when near cities for almost two years without a problem. The ramp up time on the sound is still near instant and loud.

Found here. I had my stebel mounted up front facing forward so it would project the loudest sound possible. Eventually it sounded like it wasn't getting enough air. Like something was blocking it. This got worse and worse until it just stopped working all together. With the air horns I have herd they have a ramp up in sound. While this ramp up is extremely fast it does not start at full volume. Just from the nature of air horns this is difficult to do unless you have a reservoir for the compressed air. Otherwise something has to start spinning and that spinning always starts slow and ramps up to full RPM. Again this happens within a 1/2 second but electric horns are instant. From the instant they get power they are producing 100% of their volume. Oh yea and this one is under $30. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Blazer-High-and-low-tone-replacement-twin-horns/_/N-25ki?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=horns&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=6074_0_0_

Where? Sounds great but fitting the big honkin' thing up...some bikes have more space than others... I'd like one too, but wondering where to put it...

I'm thinking if the horn is THIN enough I may be able to remove OEM and turn them both the opposite ways. I would have to experiment. Even if it doesn't work, it's $20 and I could put them on my Si.

They fit where the OEM horn is. I can't remember if I had to bend a tab out of the way for those or not but I do remember the screw they provide threads directly into something up front. Or maybe it was a screw I had. Either way I remember thinking "it's like these horns are made for it". I'll take a picture at lunch.

I thought horns on bikes were for getting a friends attention so you could wave.

I thought horns on bikes were for getting a friends attention so you could wave. That's what the honda meep-meep horn is for..so you can very politely get the attention of someone with good hearing in a quiet metal building from 10 feet away with the engine off. I prefer the behavior modification tool routine.

I'm hoping the Stebel lasts longer on my Bandit since it's protected in my fairing. Will certainly be putting the electric ones on my NH.
