Follow the volts.

The brake switch works so:
Is there power to the brake portion of the brake light socket?
Is the bulb seated properly with a good electrical connection?
Is the brake light filament onthe light bulb operating?
Good solid ground connection? (yes, the connection can be good enough to operate the running light however not good enough to handle the brake light)

As best as i can tell looks like no power to the brake light part of the bulb so does this say that there is a wire broke somewhere in the line?

The switch is adjustable.

If you pull the plunger on the switch by hand, does that make the light work? If so, then you probably just need to turn the nut-looking part of it so that the pedal makes the plunger come out far enough to activate the light.

Have you removed the seat and checked the connectors back there? They're the old-school type and don't lock in. The Clymers or Honda manual will have the wiring diagram so you will know what color you're looking for back there....

Did you try both brake lever and brake pedal?
If I recall correctly (from working DrDubb's brake light) the switch provides the ground to complete the circuit to power the light.

If both pedal and lever do not light the brake, then you're chasing the source side of the circuit.

Is there a wire plugged into the right switch housing?  Like, the underside of it, iirc.

Yes, at the right switch housing you'll see two wires coming off. They should be connected to two little metal prongs that stick off the bottom. When you move the lever, look closely under there and you'll see the brake light switch, made into the place where the lever pushes a button. The prongs are right there.

This might have nothing to do with the rear brake...

My problem was actually the tail light, not the brake light. Ended up being the flasher. It was causing an intermittent short.

Sorry DrDubb, I was thinking about the time at the rally when your brake light was not working.

Chromy....the short was in the tachometer that I crushed. We disconnected that and then had to readjust the foot brake switch. By the way, I carry a full complement of fuses now.

CB and TV are spot on.  A good chance is the connections need cleaned, the micro switch needs cleaned and exercised, or it is physically damaged and needs replaced.

You can jumper the two wires together to see if the brake light comes on.
1.  If after jumpering the wires together the light comes on, it is the micro switch that is your culprit.
2.  If the light does not come on, then you've got more wire chasing to do.

FYI - if the problem ends up being the front brake micro-switch, then the Honda Dealer can get the part and its like $6.00 or something real cheap.  I bought one last year for my 700 and that part number fits all kinds of CB's

The turn signal circuit is entirely separate from the  brake light cuicuit.

Check the adjustment of the rear brake light switch.
