Wow it is great and I love the sound! I drilled 1/4 holes and it did wonders. The one only thing is that I never played with rivets and bought the tool from AutoZone. Put the exhaust neck back in the exhaust and when I put the rivet the tool didn't do nothing to it! I guess it was a faulty tool so i just left like that for now. But wow I'm in love with the new sound and power my bike is giving me. Next stop is "washers in the carbs!"

I do have a little clip of before i did it ill put it up when i get a chance. I did the mod because my right exsaust pipe had a really annoying sound coming out of it (probably a loose baffle). In the video you will see when i put a stick all the way in side in the middle hole the annoying sound stops. So after the Tim Hodge mod the sound kind of down dies but it still there (at a lower volume)

rube - thanks for the report.  How many wholes did you drill?
My plans for the spring include both these mods.  Looking forward to getting a 'new bike' out of it.
+1 on the video!

The sound in the pipe might be metal debris rattling around in there from drilling out the rivets (and not vacuuming it out) ...as for power the exhaust mod has nothing to do with it , do the washer mod and only then you'll notice a difference thumb

No, the TH mod doesn't add HP (a freer-flowing exhaust on an already-lean running bike won't do that).  It does move the powerband down a little towards a lower rev-range.

I don't notice an improvement in power, but there is a definite improvement in throttle response. My bike seems to take a lot less time to warm up too.

Funny thing is, even though the baffle drilling improves the sound and is a little bit louder, everyone still says my bike is way too quiet....especially during the summer when all the open-pipe crowds come out.

Take it as a compliment. I have a few neighbors whose bikes don't qualify for the "too quiet" label, and I have a few neighbors that I hate. Somehow those two groups overlap.

Well, in a way, you do have more power--it's just that the "more power" is because at, say 4500 rpm, the bike now makes more power than it used to at that rpm.  Basically, you've shifted the HP peak to where it occurs earlier.  Same(ish) peak, but at a lower rpm.

You will feel much quicker throttle response when you do the carb washer mod.

PO did it to my current NH.  I honestly don't like it, it's too loud for my taste.

I did the exaust mod on my 95 750, and like the results.
I have not done the washer mod, but I did not drill out the exaust to the full extent where it required it.
I did not have the right size pop-rivit tool, so I used stainless steel screws, and they are holding just fine.
I like the throttle response as it is and will probably leave it alone.

I did that mod.   Go here:

http://www.nighthawk750.com/

click on Modifications then click on Tim Hodge Exhaust Mod.

Real easy to do. You get a deeper exhaust note and just a little more
volume. If you just leave the funnel looking baffles out it is really loud, almost
as loud as some of those weekend cruisers, doesn't sound like a
V-Twin but is is loud. I rode around with mine out for maybe 5 miles
or so, had to put them back in, it was just to LOUD! Engine braking sounded
really cool though. I experimented with different size and number of
holes drilled in the baffles and five  3/8 inch holes in each side is as
loud and deep as it will get without removing them altogether.  I also did
the washer carb needle mod.

I found this on YouTube while checking out what a Vince & Hines would sound like on my NH750.   It's guy doing the Hodge mod...

Has anybody just did the carb washer and the Vance and Hines, is it enough or is it to lean?

I did this mod today and now I'm having trouble getting the bike started. It's taking a lot of cranking before she kicks over. I didn't complete it though. My riveter is really cheap and I couldn't get the rivets to pop. So I'm going to sears to get a decent one. Would the missing rivets have anything to do with the hard starting? I should add the bike was running and starting perfectly right before the mod.

capz,

Shouldn't make any difference on starting.    If you did the carb washer mod and screwed it up that could cause problems.

Immediately after installing the Supertrapp slip-ons on my Sabre, the first restart took a lot of cranking. The oddest thing, but that's what happened. Since then, it starts right away as it always has.

What I found was a flooded airbox from the number 3 carb overflowing. I took the plug out, cranked and fuel shot up 4 feet. Kind of a strange coincidence it happened at the same time I did the Hodge mod but the fuel kept flowing even with the bike off. Even stranger is the petcock is fine. I took the tank off and no fuel came out with it set to ON. So I took the cabs off, checked the float bowls, put it back together and seems to be fine now. I just have to change the oil, I could smell gas in it.
As for the Hodge mod I love the sound. What I don't like is I now have an off idle hesitation. I should note I have Stage 1 Dynojet installed also with 102 mains. I'll resync the carbs and keep a close eye on the plugs after I put some miles on it.
Thanks rube740 for the inspiration. Btw my Autozone rivet gun didn't work either. I got a $20 gun from Ace that did the job easy.
