I got this 83 550 for free last summer and tired to get it running with no luck. then winter came along and i decided to restore it, and learn a thing or two about working on motorcycles. It has 30xxx miles on her, went through and rebuilt the motor, honed the cylinders, new piston rings, replaced my shift forks, replace my transmission, and replaced the head. went through the whole motor and cleaned it. I painted the motor your typical gloss black and painted the frame a metallic silver. It's not quite done yet but it should be ready for spring. I've been wanting to ride motorcycles for a long time but wanted to wait till I was more mature and experinced on the roads so needless to say i'm very stoked about this project.

Pics are in chronological order

not quite sure what i want to do with the handle bars just yet but im thinking i want something shorter then stock.
as of today the cylinder jugs are on and tomorrow the head will be on.

Impressive....how good are those tires? If they are 4 yrs old, they should be replaced. Might as well while you've got things apart.

Thanks guys. yeah i didn't want to paint the frame the typical black, and i wanted to have the motor and the tank pop out a little more. I think the silver was the best choice for that.
