Hello everyone,
I just recently bought an '84 Nighthawk 700S. It needs a little TLC but all in all a decent bike to start with. My fuel gage is not working and I suspect the sending unit but am having trouble locating one, seems they are discontinued. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I owned one before but when I bought it, it basically came in a box. I am in the Navy and was unable to get it running before I had to transfer so I had to sell it. So this is my first one getting to actually ride. I have had a chance to put a few miles on the bike while working on it and I am loving it.

Welcome.

I'm betting it's fixable. Do a search here. There are a couple of threads about fixing the sending unit on your bike.

We have a few current & former sailors running around here.

Welcome aboard  welcome Simco71,
I'm one of those active duty shipmates that TV referred to.  Got quite a few Marines past and present on the forum as well.

Are you a tech or an operator?  Either way you'll find the repair of the fuel sensor quite easy (probably just corroded and needs cleaned up).

Good luck, welcome aboard, and thank you for your "silent" service.

welcome Simco71 I had a similar issue on my 700 last year. I believe I got it fixed over the winter. I took it out and had to bend slightly the copper tab that runs back and forth. Mine was sloppy and wasn't making good contact. It will make sense when you get it out.

chromy,
Definitely a Tech. I am confidante that I can fix it especially after reading some other posts here about issues and repairs that were done. Glad to see some other Navy and Marine brethren. I am traditionally a car guy but have owned a few bikes this is the first one I have really gotten into though.

Washington plates; thats were I was stationed last, I am from Idaho originally but most of my career has been in Washington, 4 years in Kinsland, GA.

Thanks skramer...gonna pull it out tonight and take a look at it. I really appreciate all the help and suggestions, this is the first forum I have joined so it's good to have such a positive experience here.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the welcome

 soap
Thanks to all the active duty still serving I appreciate and respect all of you

And thank you to all who have Retired, we couldn’t do it with out those who have gone before us!  beer

Oh and by the way, think I fixed my fuel sending unit. I need to put some more gas in the tank to be sure but it looks as though the needle is deflecting. Turned out to be a combination of the copper pick up wasn't making contact and a pushed pin in the connector of the wiring harness.
