So while I was out and about riding my new to me 95 NH, the bike decides to die while i was sitting at a light.  The RPMs just started to drop and then the bike would not start.  I ended up draining the battery trying to start it.  The engine cranked but would not fire.

I found an incline where I tried 3 or 4 times to pop start it but no luck.

I've checked the kill switch, petcock, bike in neutral and the tank is full.

So after taking a taxi home and returning with my car, I try to jump start the bike.  The car was not running. :)

Again, the bike cranked but did not fire.

Could a batch of bad gas cause the bike to die and then not start?  15 miles prior to the bike dying, I filled up the tank - about 2.5 - 3 gallons I'd say.  I'm going to take it to a local shop in the morning but I'm willing to try other things before it comes to that if I can.  The bike isn't at home but still where it died.  Fortunately an owner of a store (he also rides) saw me and offered shelter for my NH. :)

Thanks in advance.

Check this

Could be fuel flow, strainer, petcock, no vacuum on petcock, etc.

I'd open the drain screws on the carbs and make sure fuel is in there. My $.02

I agree this sounds like a fuel issue.

Thanks for the replies folks.  I'll check the drain screws for fuel once I get to the bike in the morning.

Wow.. awesome link drdubb.  I will have to print that out!

Sorry for the lack of updates folks. Just got the bike back from the shop.  Said it was the vacuum hose attached to the petcock that had dry rotted.

You guys are good!

I think I need to brush up on my wrenching skills. :)

Thanks again.

That's my wife talking. 30 years ago I decided that if I need a tool, I go get it. The key is to not switch hobbies. (which I do) I did sailing and boatbuilding for 25 years, now I'm back into motorcycles. A completely different set of tools.
