I am now the proud owner of 1993 NH which is in California.
Currently I am in Thailand enjoying my Honda CB1.
Here in Thailand things are very inexpensive for the bike
and basically everything!

I need a tank bag for the bike.  I also I plan to take a backpack for 5 and 10 day road trips.
Is there any type of rack I can attach to the bike to secure a backpack?  Or would this be a custom
job? I'll take a small tent, sleeping bag, backpack stove, clothes and can goods for cheap eats. about 20 -25lbs which I normally would throw on my back and hike around and avoid the bears in the woods............LOL.  Now I have a bike!

I return May 15th and on the road June 1st.

any help here is greatly appreciated.

Robert

First you'll have to let us know which 1983 NH you've got -- 450, 550, 650 or 750? There's a fair amount of parts interchangeability between the 550 and 650. I'm not so sure if that's the case between the others.

As for racks, the original Hondaline racks are semi-rare and typically go for a fair amount when they come up for sale on places like ebay or Craig's List.

Do you have the skills/tools to make or modify one yourself?

Racke for the late model 750 are rare and tend to be expensive, but keep watching eBay.  The Ventura rack system will work if you just want something to strap a backpack/T-bag to.  Tank bags are fairly universal, but you have to be careful on the size - too big and they'll interfere with the handlbars in tight turns, and may hit the horn button at times.
