Greetings from NJ.

I've been a lurker to this forum for some months and finally introducing myself. I enjoyed so many good RR and comments from good folks. I am a new owner for a '92 Nighthawk 750. I got this bike last November and been busy cleaning up over the winter. I did not have enough time to ride the bike yet due to awful winter in NJ. The bike was in bad shape when I got it due to prolonged sitting ourdoors: rusted aluminum parts, warped front brake rotor and faded plastics, etc.  After replacing front brake rotor and cleaned the carb with SeaFoam, the bike runs fine now. I think I need to replace fork oil or inspect fork springs. I hear some funny noises when I go over bumps. Maybe it is from the steering.

I took the bike last weekend to the Harriman State Park which is only 10 minutes from my house for the first time this year. There are still some snow and ice left in the lakes. The bike ran smooth over twisties. I heard so many good things about the Nighthawk. And, oh boy, it is a good bike. A little boring compared to my 5th gen VFR but it is quite forgiving and has very comfortable riding position. I also own a '98 BMW R1100R oilhead. Three bikes have their own characters. I am very pleased with this new addition.

The bike came with GIVI WingRack for 2 side case set up. It will be very useful for long trips. I took the rack off the bike for now because I don't want to deal with the heavy rack for everyday use.  Over the winter, I bought a Chinese made backrest from e-Bay. It seems I need to cut some parts in the rear fender. I found some posts on the cutout in this forum.

Will post more pictures when I make more backcountry excursions in the area.

Thank you everyone for warm reception.   Well, I didn't take pictures when I got it.  The bike looked like submerged in muddy water for some time  Hap1  All chrome parts were dull and aluminums in engine section were badly weathered.  Actually the pictures do not show such details. Still long way to go.  I am looking for a good aluminum polish. I used 'BlueMagic' metal polish cream on the tire rims.  I worked well there but not on the cylinder cover and other engine parts.

Doc, where can I get the info for the upcoming rally?

 welcome from the garden state.

I envy you being so close to Harriman, which I believe is home to the famous Bear Mountain.  Some of the roads up there have a nasty combination of long straightaways, hills and blind corners that would be much less daunting if once one got familiar with them.

 wave Hawks_Nest,

I was just up to Bear Mt. yesterday - lots of bikes out!
I also have a '92.  I did the carb needle washer mod yesterday - http://www.nighthawk750.com/mods/carbneedlemod.html - and rode up to Bear Mt. to test it out.  I noticed great improvement in throttle response and acceleration.  If you haven't already, definitely do it.  Not hard either!

Anyway, I'm in Queens - let me know if you'd be interested in going for a ride sometime - you too, Happy!

welcome Glad to see another NH going to someone who will ride and take care of it.  You have a good stable of bikes and just added a sleeper to the bmw and vfr.

welcome to the NHF!  Nice 750!

I did notice that the rear brake pedal is bent back, was this from the PO?

Thank you for the rally info. I've been thinking about Deal's Gap for some time.  I was planning an excursion to the Blue Ridge Parkway this spring.  Should I do both scratcher

Susquehanna rally is doable for now. I will pencil in that one.

Where are you in NJ?  If you are happened to be heading this way (Mahwah), we can ride together in the park.  Even though they are short, there are decent backroads in the park.  I visited there again today but a bit cold. So I had to hook up heated jacket liner after riding about an hour.

You have very good eyes.  Yes, it was from PO. It seems he right-sided at one point. It appears that gas tank was replaced.  Gas tank is relatively clean compared to other parts.

Le me know next time you are heading this way.  There is another member (HappyCommuter) living in NJ.  It must be very nice yesterday: warm and no wind.  It was a bit cold and very windy today.

Thank you for the carb adjustment lead. I am mechanically challenged but let me try soon. It seems the bike struggles at high RPM somewhat.  I don't get the usual kick (expected with VFR or R1100R) at around 5,000 - 7,000 rpm.  It seems that the job requires the removal of the gas tank. Do you know where it is   think2

Hawks_Nest,

I too have little experience with wrenching.  This is another reason I found the project so much fun - it's easy and rewarding.

Pick up a manual.  I've got the Clymers:

http://www.bikebandit.com/clymer-manual-honda-cb750-nighthawk-1991-1993-1995-1999-manual-m436?m=1988&td=1

or you can get a Honda service manual:

http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?class_2=AHC&mk=Honda+Motorcycle&yr=1993&md=On-Road&dt=Shop%2FService+Information&module=&from=result&Style=&Sku=61MW307&itemtype=N&mscsid=AEBPWTD43GMP9NNR217AM4FP8089CAC2

and keep us posted!

I'm on the Member Map (Union county, one of the many suburbs to Elizabeth.  I just cut&pasted a meetup thread into the Mid-Atlantic States regional forum.  We've definitely entered the sketchy season between nutjobs-only cold and open season for every sunshine rider around.  I always want to avoid the heat/crowd and get out and hopefully I'll get to it this year.

Good Deal......It just stood out at me, since your bike looks just like my 91'

Thank you for telling me about the brake pedal. I did not notice it. It turns that there was too much free play in the pedal. I adjusted the pedal height adjustment nut last night and it looks better now.

My bike came with the similar fairing as yours. It is made by Targa. One of the brackets was busted so it vibrated so much at high speed. So I took it off and replaced with my old Spitfire (15") shield. It works for me. I will try another windshield sitting in the garage soon (NC Street Shield EX).
