Just picked up this 85 nighthawk 650 last week for $1500.  It's only got 8,000 miles and runs great.  Cant wait to take her on some long trips this summer.

Question-  Does anyone know where i can find a nice 4 into 1 exhaust for this bike?  I can only find the MAC exhaust which i am not a fan of.  I see a lot of nice exhausts for the 700 nighthawk, can i make those fit my bike???  If i can find a nice exhaust, i would be willing to spend up to $500 for it.  Any suggestions?

welcome to the addiction.  She's purty!

Ride it as it is for a while.... a good 6 months to a year.  Get to know it as it is, you might actually like it.  Significant changes like exhaust shouldn't be hastily done, imo...

Thanks for the suggestions, but i really need a 4 into 1.  Just love the sound of the honda inline 4's with a nice 4 into 1.

Well, another question.  Has anyone ever tried lowering the headlight on these bikes?  The shape and location of the headlight is the only thing i dislike about this bike.

Wow that looks to be in great shape.  Enjoy!

I wasn't thrilled with the shape of my 650 headlight either but grew to like it over time.

If your stock exhaust is in good shape it will be worth allot. MAC is the only company who currently makes exhausts for your bike. Every once in a while a Supertrapp will show up on eBay for your 650, but they get top dollar. The 700 exhausts will not fit a 650.

Almost forgot...several members here have converted their square headlights to round headlights. Not sure if this is what you are after?
Have a look at JWBrockman's conversion:

MAC makes a 4-1, but I stuck with stock because I didn't want to rejet or make it any louder. MAC website says $359.50, well under your $500. That doesn't include shipping though. Usually you can find one for sale on eBay, but none are up today.

Now if you are looking to get rid of that stocker, I know I could make a nice home for it if the price was right. deal

Hey thanks for the welcome.  I live about 30 minutes south of Pittsburgh in the washington area.  I would definitely like to join that ride.

Gammer- thanks for your help.  Thats exactly what i was looking for.  I think i will look for one of those supertrapp exhausts if they do exist.

If you were really dedicated...

You could probably take the MAC exhaust, which I believe is a two piece setup, and use only the headers from it. Then with a little custom tubing you could rig up any old Supertrapp can.

that is a good idea.  Problem is that i have been spoiled by such nice exhausts over the years, i dont know if i would be happy with it.  Actually, if i find the supertrapp exhaust, i will only be using the header.  I have a moriwaki slip-on i would like to use.

Has anyone used that MAC exhaust? How is it?

Doesn't look like fabbing the pipe would be too much work. I would think you could  get a muffler shop to weld up a short bend to mount the can on, then you could easily get it chromed locally if that's your style.

A smaller 4-1 will no doubt be louder. I couldn't tell you anything about the tone though. It comes down to personal preference - what floats someone else's boat might sound atrocious to you. You'll have to search Youtube to hear what you are looking for, and then you still have to trust the questionable audio of most people's smartphones used to post half of Youtube's vids.

welcome to the NHF. Your bike looks like it's in great shape. I too want(ed) to put a 4-1 exhaust on my 650 but, haven't been able to find anything other than the MAC for it. I have been thinking about buying a nice Yosh can and fabbing my own system.

If the stock exhaust is in good shape, store them with care as good sets are rare.

Supertrapp on a 650:

I like the sound of that  thumb
It sounds very close (if not the same) as the Supertrapp on my Nighthawk S.
That in-line 4 sound out of a 4-1 exhaust is like music to my ears  jkam

Hey thanks all.

I wish there was a catalog that showed the exhaust pitch for all different bikes.  You would be surprised how many bikes have the same exhaust pitch (which is all that really matters for an exhaust header).  My old KZ650 had yoshimura 4 into 1 from a kawasaki zephyr 750.  I wouldn't be surprised if my nighthawk had the same pitch as some other hondas.

Anyone else live around the washington/cannonsburgh area?

Question-  Does anyone know where i can find a nice 4 into 1 exhaust for this bike?  I can only find the MAC exhaust which i am not a fan of.  I see a lot of nice exhausts for the 700 nighthawk, can i make those fit my bike???  If i can find a nice exhaust, i would be willing to spend up to $500 for it.  Any suggestions?

You could always have something custom made.  Just sayin.
