Good choice. As far as I'm concerned, the Zephyr was the only real alternative to the Nighthawk if you were looking for a newer UJM. This thread kinda depresses me. In my younger days, the inliine 4 standard was the bike everyone aspired to own. Unfortunately, I was poor, so I always ended up on their cheaper two cylindered cousins. Now that I can afford to buy whatever bike I want, they don't make the kind of bike I want (at least not for the U.S. market). I often wonder what I'm going to do when I wear out the Nighthawk. I'm thinking if I move to Australia I can pick up a nice air cooled CB1100  I've always said if they ever sell them here I'll be first in line at the dealership door.  |

A 919. I've always liked that bike.  +1....I'm looking for one of these right now! I just got back from Italy and saw a few....there they are called "Hornets" ....I absolutely dig and want one of these bikes....as it'll join my current bike..... |

Me too. Do a fender elimination kit,raise/change the bars and add a fly screen and that bike would be what I want. (besides a new Bandit 1250) |

After giving this topic some more thought, I have a couple bikes on my non-NH wishlist. I'd probably get an old Sabre or Magna, Silverwing, 70's Goldwing, or a Yamaha GS850.

Oh yeah.  Can we at least adjust for inflation? I bought mine brand new 15 yrs. ago. That would put me in the $7K price range today. |

A 919. I've always liked that bike. I really liked the way the bike looked when it was first released, but got told quickly thereafter that they're pretty slow and really "budget". |

Lets see, I paid $800ish for my NH. If I had to replace it, I'd find an SV (or it's replacement, the Gladius (same thing, same engine slightly heavier crank to help new riders)), or I'd try and find myself a VF500F or VF750F. Failing those, I'd look for a Katana or an old oil-head Bandit.

Was wondering how many posts it was gonna take to see mention of the V-4s! Magna and Sabre V45 (700cc & 750cc), especially Magnas, pop up around here all the time in the 1-2K range ready to ride. Once in a while a sweet V65 (1100cc) will pop up...like this one I picked up last summer:  After (somewhat regretfully) selling my '82 650, and a brief stint on a ST1100, this one called out to me on CL. Can't express enough how much I LOVE this bike (I think Laminar will agree!). Also recently picked up a '83 Sabre V45 for $900 that a buddy and I are fixing up for his son. Only really needed a little basic maintenance and some cosmetic work. When I took that one for a ride it reminded me a LOT of how the 650NH felt, with just a bit more power. I do still want another 80s NH...someday the right one will find me again. |

How about a 2nd generation V45 aka super magna? Although my 85 and 86 CB700sc are quite nice to ride, the V4 engine is so torquey and smooth!!!!!!!! However the handling of the NH is way superior!!!!!

Honda elite 250, take out governor washer, switch out front cvt for a ch150 one, rig up some saddle bags and then quite searching CL nightly, after owning 50+ bikes my Elite 150 now with 120K, owned for 20 years, is the best vehicle I've ever owned, period. my buddy has an elite 250 with gearing mod and it is quick as hell, beats my K75 and NH out of the hole and does 85 mph, with 75k on the clock, 60 mpg.
A new round of hoses (once), brakes (twice), tires, and 6 speaker sound system only things I've done to it. Funny thing is my NH cant hold a charge in city driving but my ch150 scooter powers 6 speakers with an Ipod and charges my Ipod and phone.
