I finally got around to taking a ride today to the wind farm just north of Lafayette, Indiana. It was a pretty cool experience, although at times I caught myself a little too distracted, so I stopped to take some pictures, and then got my eyes back on the road. It was amazing that you could see wind turbines as far as you could see in any direction. As you may imagine it was a pretty windy ride home (had the tail wind on the way up). You can see how far the blades are deflected in the last two pictures. It was worth the trip though.

I find large wind farms somewhat hypnotic.

They are something to see, saw some around Scranton, Pa. Never knew the wind turbines would affect your riding that much.  ricky

That's cool...I am going to inherit (no time soon hopefully) a large farm in Alexandria.  I've considered contracting with someone who wants to put windmills out...it's not like they ruin the land for farming.

Yes go for it, they will keep the birds off the crops. And put some cell phone towers on top!

Cool idea for a ride.  Those blades really bend.  In my Lafayette, there are no wind farms.  In fact, I've never seen one in Louisiana for that matter.

I didn't realize there were any up here until I came for Grad School two years ago. We do some structural testing at my lab at Purdue, and we have one of these blades. These things are truly massive. Each blade is over 130ft long.

That's pretty cool. It makes me want to ride out to eastern Oregon to check out the wind farms over there. What part of the state is Lafayette in? My dad lives in Syracuse. I was out there last summer. Pretty country…

Lafayette is on I-65 about half way between Indianapolis and Chicago.

Cool report.  Wind turbines are huge.
