Aftermarket handlebars are all over the place.  You want 7/8" diameter, not 1".
The standard dimensions listed are simple, and explained by me here.
Make sure that the new grip location
1. doesn't require longer control cables.
2. allows full steering movement without hitting the fuel tank.
3. is comfortable.

Just an FYI Speenbean, this is a common problem when looking for straighter/cafe style bars for Nighthawks.

Like gammer said, cafe bars most likely wont fit the 650. I know it's the latest in retro cool, but seriously, consider keeping the original bars. I wanted to swap them for a while (don't want people thinking it's a cruiser). Then I did some low speed maneuvering on an SV650 naked bike. Even with bar risers, at that low speed my hands began to hurt within a few minutes, and I'm no old man. Cafe bars are much worse. Other than style there's is no benefit to cafe bars, and you loose a lot of comfort to achieve that look. If you have to change them, stick with straight bars or taller.

Moreover, to be frank, cafe bars look odd with the Nighthawk's rather shallow fork angle.

pain is part of the gain. I'm in the same boat with handlebars, don't know which ones to get.

When in doubt try daytona bars , they seem to fit everything and I've never heard of anyone that didn't like the look . Also unless your bike came with those obnoxious pull back harley type bars you usually don't have to get shorter cables or any of that junk . Even back when I was doing cafe bikes I was using daytona bars instead of clubmans , I wanted my bikes to look good AND be comfortable....and they were .

Check WWW.jcwhitney.com for bars. They have a wide selection of daytonas, cafe, clubmans, etc... That will for your bike. Most are around the $25.00 range. Like was said before, the daytonas seem to be a popular bar for the NH.
