Might want to change out the grips.
+1 You might find that the stock grips have a better feel then those aftermarket grips you have on it now. I know I prefer thinner grips that I can easily wrap my hand around. As apposed to the fatter grips. Yeah, I've been thinking about that. I think I would like thinner grips too...I'll keep my eyes out for some stock ones. The ones that are on there now have a cruise control lever thingy but I'm thinking I won't really ever use it. There's another RWB around my area (MN) on CL with 21xxx miles for $1795 if anyone wants to make a trip, though I called the guy and he never called me back so idk what the deal is with that. I guess I'm glad how it worked out! Thanks again for the nice comments. I'll be putting my other bike up in the stablemates section when I get an extra minute at home.

To come, or to go as long as I am on my nighthawk.

I bet after a few uses of it, you will change your mind. I love my cruise control, especially on long extended trips!

Oh my god...do not "customize" that beauty! Judging from your post you seem like the sort who appreciates a quality original. Glad that bike will survive!

Well, if you don't want the cruise control/throttle lock, I'm sure I could make a nice home for it.

We (here in NE Ohio) recently had an '86 RWB sell for $4100.00 (it was on Ebay about 2 months ago). The bike only had 2K original miles and other than a small area of paint messed up on the side of the gas tank, it looked SHOWROOM NEW! I wanted it really badly, but it almost needed to be trailered around, or in a museum, so the miles didn't get racked up, and the dirt/grime (they are never the same as when new). I don't need another 700-S sitting around, and didn't have the money. That's more than a good deal. More like theft. Then again, Nighthawk prices don't get much higher than that. Most Nighthawk's aren't in that condition though.

I bet after a few uses of it, you will change your mind. I love my cruise control, especially on long extended trips! I'll try it when I go for a cruise if it ever stops raining here! BikeBandit says they can get the factory grips for around 10 bucks a piece. I don't think the cruise would work with those because it clamps around the chrome part.. Are there cruise systems that work with rubber grips? @ jerjohn - I'll be keeping it stock and take VERY good care of it...maybe some different grips and tires are the only things ill be changing! @ Option13 - I'll keep that in mind if I DO decide to change out the grips and don't want to keep them lying around for some other use. I'm sort of a pack rat

There are cruise control's that work with the stock grips. I've never heard of a throttle lock integrated into the grip, but it certainly sounds like an excellent idea.

Upon further inspection it doesn't clamp the grip itself, it just looked like it did right away. Mine is exactly like the one that Snoopy85Hawk put a link to. So it probably would work with different ones then. Does it clamp the throttle sleeve underneath?

That's right, it grips the plastic throttle piece that is underneath the grip. Just to confirm, it doesn't actually lock the throttle...you can still twist the throttle when it is activated...it just holds it with some pressure.

Hey guys! Every time I come on here I always end up just browsing for an hour then I run out of time to actually post some good stuff with pics etc. So finally I uploaded some pics and set some time aside ( at 1 AM ) to get some posts up actually. I guess it's sort of an update...this past summer I put on roughly 2000 trouble free miles and still couldn't be happier with my NH. I've been so tempted to take her out because of the mild weather we've been having in MN. It's gotten up to 50 degrees some days and we literally don't even have an inch of snow on the ground which is soooo unusual. I've seen a couple people out riding their bikes but mine are still sleeping under their covers until spring. I put new factory grips on my bike and kept the cruise control as per a couple recommendations from you guys. I like the skinnier grips a lot more and find that I use the cruise more than I thought. I also put new factory blinker stalks ($$) on all 4 corners as they were deteriorating. The front right was especially bad with a split band - the wind would push it back while cruising and I eventually zip tied it until I bought new ones. The front tire was also replaced with a Dunlop GT501 which has worked well so far.

Just noticed some sweet old Honda's in the back. 750's? One advantage if you have the space for it. I can hardly squeeze my bike in my shed.

Great! I love those old SOHC-bikes. Although I like bikes to be original, my favorite bikes are cafe-racers. Check out http://www.cb750cafe.com/ They do great stuff with these old Honda's.

Thanks everyone!
@ jonno - Yeah it's amazing what some of them look like when finished! I look forward to tearing it down and rebuilding/repainting everything in time, but I'm just thankful it runs good now!
@ tomb raider - Thanks for the tip! Now that you mention it I remember seeing that stuff talked about in project posts etc. I'll look into it!
