G'Day Mate  muhaha

well, today i purchased a 83 Honda CB650SC Nighthawk for a total of $1200.

it needs a few things before Rego, mainly indicators.

i will try and get some pics this weekend if its not pissing down rain.

its a little quicker than my current bike, a Honda XL175 super

Im sure i will have LOTS of questions and i KNOW you all get sick of me asking

well, best be off biker_h4h1

Welcome aboard. I've got an 83 on which I've learned a lot about motorcycles. Help if I can. Looks like my next task is a fork seal replacement.

Thank you, not too shabby. You might want to put that decal on the tank, I hear they run better with it. What, who said anything about help?

The bike is ment to be Blue, but dont know its just something about  a Black Nighthawk.

to start off the questions
1) is there anything else the bike is known as (just to help with ebay searches)
2) what shops are reputable to buy from aswell as cheap
3) what are the common problems with the 83 nighthawk

Yea I know what you mean with those black ones. The only help with your questions I can offer is "CB". I am sure more help will follow.

welcome to the NHF!  nice bike!

you def have to stick around!  this place has really ruined me in terms of other forums... i mean that in a good way.

Yea I know what you mean with those black ones. The only help with your questions I can offer is "CB". I am sure more help will follow.

1) is there anything else the bike is known as (just to help with ebay searches)
2) what shops are reputable to buy from aswell as cheap
3) what are the common problems with the 83 nighthawk

1) ...already taken care of...
2) ebay, CL, & this forum have always kept my bike running. sorry, no specific sellers in mind.
3) i think the fuel gauge has a tendency to foul up after 20+ years.  so don't be too heavily dependent on that thing, use the tripmeter to prevent being stranded.

other than that... i think you be out of the woods for now.  unless you fail to post more pics. i need more pics. i kinda have a problem... shog

but on the plus side, i will answer questions for pics!  ricky

cheers,

damn you guys are quick.

only really looking for, side covers (one tab on each side is broken off), Rear shocks (they have butched them) and just little bits and bobs to clean her up. but i just ordered $280 worth of stuff, well all new indicators and the rubber mounts and a workshop manual from Oldbikebarn.com

at the moment my bike is 200ks away at my old folks home but this weekend i will bring her home. and get pics of my two bikes. and the bad bits on the NH.

Those side panels are hard to come by and valued very highly when they do pop up, from what I understand. There is a thread on here to repair your mentioned broken tab. Good to see you are doing your part to improve the global economy, we do appreciate it.

If I remember correctly Laminar made tabs using wooden dowels, maybe someone else can find the thread - was it for the Sabre he is now riding or maybe the Ascott he built for the wife.

either way  welcome

My wife has a long time friend from Wollongong, Australia. I think he and his wife now live in Australia.

My dad cant help himself, since the bike has been parked at his place he has been fiddling with it, he has gotten all the lights to work properly, well he is still working on the indicators/flashers, found out the Flasher cam is shot and that why no indicators working.

Gotta love dads like that.

what are some good exhausts? i want to keep it stock looking so 2-into-1 down each side, but i want to give it a nice deep note

you are darn right i would like someone to sort out any and all electrical gremlins for me! you got yourself a handy pops!

i don't know if the tim hodge mod would work on the 550, but that might be your only option for changing the sound of the exhaust while sticking to the 4-2 setup.  aftermarket pipes do not really exist for these bikes for 4-2.  you might be able to find a 4-1 from vance and hines?

good luck,
