"Get on your bikes and ride!" - Freddie Mercury

OK, today I had a serious attack of the stupids, but boy did I have fun.

Not too far away from me is a shopping mall. Around that mall is a road with lots of twists and turns, as well as a few straight bits. Every time I ride or drive through there, I think how it would make a nice small racetrack. But I'm always there during the day, when I'm sharing the road with lots of other traffic, so having some fun with it is out of the question.

Last night worked my night job until 4:00 a.m. I hopped on the bike to ride home and it was a pleasant morning. A thought entered my head:  I bet there's no one in or around that mall right now. So I took a little detour.

Sure enough, the place was deserted. The imp got the better of me and I gave it a try. shog

Wow, was that ever fun. I didn't push it too hard because there were a few wettish bits from some rain earlier in the night and I don't have great tires on my bike. Still, I felt like I was a moto GP racer.

I did a couple of laps, then boogied on out of there before the local gendarmerie came across me and my nonsense. And I wore a grin all the way home  ricky

Sounds like fun. Beats paying 350 bucks for a track day anyways  thumb

I know what you mean. There's one corner near my house on an industrial road with some nice curves leading up to it. I can do laps there, making u turns back and forth, for 20 minutes and never see a car. That is, unless it's 5:00 and people come to pick up their kids from the day care. It's the first place I dragged a peg, and it's quite safe because the road is four lanes wide but rather tight, giving me great sight lines through the corner and plenty of room for error.

Hanging off the seat and whipping through there for the last time is awesome, because I tend to scoot on out of there in a hurry. I just hope they don't tire of me and call the Fuzz to crack down on all my fun.

You guys better be careful...cause I know these two guys on crotch rockets who were wiping along a country road and this guy in a red pick up truck tried to run one of them off the road when the one guy on the bike tried to pass. You just don't want to piss some of the locals off, is all...

Revisiting this...

Find a big empty parking lot and go crazy. I did this earlier today and had an absolute blast. I dragged the pegs frequently, even when leaning off the bike, which is great practice for when it happens on the road so you don't freak out (I thought I could lean farther! shog). I brought cones, but there were enough medians and painted arrows to dodge that I didn't need to use them. It's not as fast as a road, but you get to go all out without worrying about blind turns or other people/animals/gravel/new potholes suddenly crossing your path.
