I can confirm my mileage is up by about 7-8 mpg.I have been writing down numbers and using same gas station 93 premium gas.
Its true my mileage is up and my bike does run smoother and yes choke time far less.
Is it all due to additives in the gas?Maybe I am not sure but results are so positive that I will continue using premium gas from same station.
FYI I live in Medford MA metro Boston so East cost mix.

Octane rating DOES have an effect on idle, anti-knock and performance. I used to have a practically unlimited source for obtaining 100 Low Lead Avgas and used to run it in the Nighthawk. Since switching back to 87 octane, the difference is quite noticeable...to the point where I am considering running premium in the Hawk regardless of cost.
I agree with you.Just did a 250mile round trip to Cape Cod and the bike run lot smoother and more power and I know its not placebo.

Hi guys
Lately I switched to 92 octane and my bikes 91NH runs smoother faster and seems to have more power.Noticed idle increased significantly and I adjusted back down but was puzzled why switching the octane increased the idle speed.
Anyway am I experiencing placebo effect or actually my bike runs better.I know it does but need your guys opinions

I sold my VFR800 5th gen long ego and main reason fear of overheating.This all gear driven engine is beautiful to listen but creates lots of heat and when stuck in traffic temp shoots way up and if anything goes wrong with the fans you are screwed.I just could not take the stress being in traffic almost all the time here in Boston.Fine machine if outside of city with vast open roads which almost never here hence why I bought the NH lot more happy and been stuck in traffic without issues.
Do miss that VFR sound specially on downshifts.
Your model has probably most complicated valve adjustment and why I think they are relativity cheap to buy on CL since just adjusting the valves are over 1k job.

Congrats! Its a great bike.I had a SV650 and basically the same engine as in storm.I loved my SV best handling bike I owned.

SV has a huge dedicated forum which should keep you updated on mods and maintenance.These guys are passionate about their bikes as NH owners do here only SV owners are lot more numerous.

Cool factor will ware off quick when you realize your $800 pipes are rusted prematurely
Paint it high temp ceramic paint that will look cool plus protect against rust.
my VHT pipes still look good after 2weeksw of painting.

Please do post pics. I have a friend who is considering doing pipe wrapping now.
Tell your friend he will be buying headers way sooner if he wraps.This trend started in nascar racing but now most coat them with ceramic paint.If he is going for the looks then its simply costly.
Here some pics notice wrap pattern eaten deep.



The part has been sanded great deal prepping to paint which looks lot better but when 1st unwrapped it looked terrible.

There seems to be hotted discussion on internet if wrapping pipes causes damage.Well it does.After 1 year of having my pipes wrapped foolishly I took it off to paint with high temp 2000 paint and sadly good chunks of my headers seriously rusted deep and rusted part has exactly same pattern as the wrap itself.
I will take pictures to show.If you ride a lot and occasionally in the rain that's when it really damages when wet wrap literally steams on the pipes.Whoever says otherwise must of never ridden in the rain.Anyway I will post pics soon

"Looks DIY" is hardly a valid criticism when all of these modded bikes look DIY.
I think you know what I meant.
You can rattlecan paint a bike and make it look like ghetto job or you can rattlecan that look polished clean. Both DIY difference is execution.Same can be applied to seat,foam shaping,crisp edging,aesthetics.Seat touching the tank also looks bla....
People only want to hear great comments I provided only honest observation on this thread.
It can be made far better!That's all I am trying to say.

I maybe minority here but aesthetically your seat just does not work.Its not formed well and it curves in wrong places and rear part of the seat looks kind of DIY.
I think you should redo it with nice edges and keeping it as flat as possible.Something like this.


I think you put a great effort so far and make it count!

Just my opinion, of course...but do the Dixon to a Nighthawk and guarantee within a year you will hate it. In fact, you will hate it so much you will try to sell it, and as the above posts infer, you will take not only a beating but a thrashing as well.
Trust me; nobody wants somebody else's idea of a "cool bike". The standard Nighthawk is as foolproof and user-friendly as it gets but once you start butchering, that dog won't hunt. Get it. Ride it. Enjoy it.
I think one can modify improve performance without cutting frame or even removing air box.
I chose to go "mild" classy route.

Yeah I am feeling more confident over that yellow one then the red. Unfortunately this guy is not interested in trades so I'm feeling more pressured to sell the shadow I have now faster, or possibly take out a small $2000 loan just to secure it. Seems like a good deal that I don't want to miss
In my opinion never good idea to take a loan to buy a toy unless it was necessary like transportation...which it seems its not the case

When you think its "great deal" few months later you find even better deal...there is always great deals out there.I have been shopping for used goldwing GL 1100 1200 and each case I find great deals in my neck of the woods.In fact so many I can't even decide.

anyway good luck its not my place to tell you what to do...

Update about the Exhaust.

He said the exhaust has been welded and repaired by the previous owner, no leaks currently. "I just got the bike last year. I buy n sell bikes a few times a year. I go thru them mechanically and ride em til I'm bored" He also said "Ive only ridden it a few times."

IDK, he is asking below nada/kbb at $1500, I feel like the bike I'm selling is 1700-2000 especially if I put the new tires on I have sitting in my garage. Seems to me I might just have to let this pass me by, sell the bike and buy one for $2000. Currently another listed for $2200 that might be more sound, plus it is a 1996.

Thoughts?

that's a beautiful low mileage yellow! with sissy bar offer 2k cash he'll take it.I think its more then worth it specially in that nice condition
fairing alone is worth 300 I think its a targa model and has center stand 125-40 value

I'm looking into getting a Nighthawk. Was originally setting the bar at nothing less than 1990. But, there are quite a few 80's and even 70's models on CL that seem tempting.

I have very little mechanic know-how, although am learning. What year is too old? I guess it depends on how good the bike is maintained originally. But, if I want to spend more time riding not wrenching should I stick to 90's up?
I recommend NH750 with auto valve adjusters and overall very reliable.Parts are easier to find then earlier versions.Since NH750 was made essentially unchanged over a decade its very easy finding parts with exception of few parts that are back ordered like forever.
Since you mentioned you are not that mechanically inclined I suggest newer the better.

Just not buying it.... The Official WD40 site: https://wd40.com/cool-stuff/myths-legends-fun-facts says that the formula is still secret.  As for it being mostly kerosene, I'm not buying that in the least.  I feel it would eat the paint off the walls when using it to remove crayon.

Not that I'd use WD40 for a motorcycle chain anyway, I don't feel it's a heavy enough lube.  I recall using something a long time ago - it foamed when you put it on, and smelled vaguely like bananas.  Now - when I have a chain - I use chain wax.
I think the video and myself stated WD40 is great cleaner then you can lube as usual whatever you prefer.
Having said above lot of sport touring riders use WD40 only and these guys put lot more miles on their bikes then average rider.
Personally think its safe on chains.

Since majority of WD40 is kerosene then its fine using it to clean the chain since most manufacturers recommend using kerosene to clean the chain.
After cleaning it I use DuPont Teflon Chain Saver perhaps best chain lube out there and does not attract dirt and stays on the chain

That's fantastic! I like the RS11000 like yours but read too many stories on clutch spline failures. Forums are full of stories on this issue.It seems some bikes were effected and some not.Repairing is costly 3k almost cost of the bike.
Anyway enjoy it

Thanks for liking it.Pictures are crap the paint color and bronze tank strip is beautiful and hard to see that in the pics.When I get a chance will take better pics.I painted the bike myself using rustoleum spry cans and the triple clear was impressive for $7. Really like their pruducts.
Unfortunately my original NH looked like crap-broken plastic,broken engine fin.bent headlight bracket,headlight etc. Basically bought it from Argo Cycles NH that was in accident.It had only 7k miles so figured worth 1k I paid for it (could of bought for 700 if I had a better sense).Did not take pics but it was not worth taking anyway. I cleaned the carbs 3 times and finally after replacing all float needles bike started to run without squirting fuel in engine.
Did learn lot of things on maintenance on NH so after working so many hours on it I feel NH is my friend....I am sure bikers can relate to this.

Sounds familiar Rubo.  Glad you are loving the NH.  What size rear sprocket did you get?  I am back to stock 38 but a few years back I had a bigger(40?)  that made the NH accelerate quicker.

Thanks for your help deciding on tires.I am glad I went redials.Seriously improved handling.I stayed with stock 38 myself as well.I did not want to have overworked highway and did not want sluggish 1st gear so stayed with stock which to me is nice compromise.
