General Motorcycle Discussion / Re: '84 cb700sc Clutch slipping??
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:01:36 PM »
There is a teeny tiny drain hole in the master cylinder. It resides under a little metal guard. Mine exhibited similar symptoms and that was the culprit. Would slip at higher RPM. The slip got worse as the ride got longer. After a certain amount of time, no clutch. Does it get better after cooling off?

Way to high. You start pricing the fixing of the plastics and you'll be buying another bike.

I just sold a mint one for that price...only 40k miles.

For the last 6, now 7 years, a group of nighthawk riders has gathered at the Kickstand Motorcycle Lodge (KSL) for fun and relaxation. This year it is the weekend around May 19. We camp or rent cabins, and go riding during the day and sip beverages and tell stories at night. Its a real good time. Lots of good riding. Generally, we break up into small groups of 4-6 that go their own way and ride the ride they want. No planning, no agenda, no schedule

Go to my blog are read the ride reports concerning the Smoky Mountain rally or KSL. I have some simple video and pics with write ups.

Send me a PM with specific questions.

Just let me warn you. Riding in the mountains is different, you must be willing to lean and counter steer and its important to ride under your ability. Some of the curves are blind decreasing radius turns with a surprise of gravel in the middle of your planned line. Most years, someone has crashed or we witness a crash, sometimes they are bad. I crashed my first year, luckily, no injuries. (thanks ATGATT)

Now that I've enticed you, I hope you will join us.

If they are left alone in the garage, they multiply.

They call us "born again" bikers. I had a 1971 SL350 Honda. Sold it when I got married and started a family. 29 years later I puchased a 1995 750 Nighthawk and have not looked back.
Come on up to the Smoky's in May. Some of us old farts are gathering for some riding.

Mutazu has a tail rack similar to the OEM, but the quality is not as good.

Watch eBay for other stuff.

I use western Honda's fiche for most parts.

What a great machine!

I've read that the POR products are superior to Cream .
Sand, water and lots of shaking might work. I'm sure youtube will have lots of videos.

Nice...bike....really looks professional.

one of our former members is in Huntsville. I don't think he's riding anymore.

I wish I could answer you more directly...I used the sharpening stone method on a valve cover gasket. Lots of work. I used the heat gun just a little. You would have to be careful b/c of aluminum's conductivity. However, how hot is the engine when running?

11
heat gun, get a cheap one at Harbor freight. I've also used a sharpening stone with kerosene or wd 40 to get the last little bits off. Make sure you gave a new, flat one.

General Motorcycle Discussion / Re: Did I make a mistake? 90's Nighthawks
« on: February 28, 2016, 01:29:21 PM »
I'd rather have the 91-03 model. Still lots of parts available from the manufacturer. Plenty on the used market. And its a great, reliable machine. No valve adjustments, just keep the chain lubed, filter clean and oil changed. Accessories, a little harder, but it can be done. I modified a set of GIVI racks made for a Vstrom to work on my 95-750.

I've got a couple of different ones. I have one from Honda that works on my 750 when no other will work. I don't recall the part number, but its pretty thin.

I returned to riding after a 40 year hiatus. Very nervous on my first rides. I had to build up to it. Started small and slowly extended my range. Took about 9 months. Its been 7 years now and I still avoid traffic, but I go where I want and ride almost weekly.

However, like it was said above, I would never encourage nor discourage anyone from riding. That's your decision and feel ok with whatever you decide. This is inherently more dangerous than a car. No shame it letting it go.

General Motorcycle Discussion / Re: How high is high mileage?
« on: January 20, 2016, 09:28:38 PM »
I just sold a 95 with 40k miles that was in excellent shape. It all depends on how they were cared for and to be honest, all it took were regular oil changes.

General Motorcycle Discussion / Re: Is stock Carb set up durable? 750NH
« on: August 23, 2015, 05:27:28 PM »
It will be fine, they don't run that lean. The bikes can do 100k miles if cared for. However, you can do the washer mod. One #4 washer under the head of each needle. You don't even have to remove the carbs. Just the tank and the top of each carb. That would richen it up a little. If you are unfamiliar with carbs....leave it alone and ride. Change the oil, lube the chain, air the tires. Very easy motorcycle to take care of .
