Title: Still Alive and Kickin'?
Post by: mjperk on October 19, 2017, 09:50:44 AM
Maybe not super relevant, but just out of curiosity does anybody know how many active members there are these days? I have not spent nearly as much time on the site as I did a few years ago, but have been getting close to finally finishing my project CB700 and am curious to see what active membership (and participation I suppose) is these days.

There's a pretty active core of a couple of dozen people I'd say.  Most of the older members don't have Nighthawks any more but still have wisdom to offer.
And there are a few people who are relatively new (say, in the past six months) who seem to be doing interesting builds or are dealing with the bringing-it-back-to-life issues that many of us have faced over the years.  Some of those young 'uns are very active contributors and participants.

Prior to the crash, I think we had close to 7,000 members.   After the crash, we probably had 400 users register in the month that followed. .  But using that statistic as a measurement, I'd say about 5% of our membership would be described as active at that time.   I'm guessing most of those 400 are gone now.  The activity level had to start all over and many were not interested in rebuilding the site from scratch again.

It's been 3 years since the crash.  If we use the ~5% statistic, I'd say maybe there's 100 active members.

I'm new on here... and a new owner of a Nighthawk as well. I'm a motorcycle rookie, but I try to contribute whatever knowledge I can impart.

I’m committed for life. I just realized I have more $ in my current 2000 than I did when I bought a new 2000 in 2000.  ridn2

Its amazing to think of all the info that was lost in that crash. We had a local New England group that met up on SOHC4, had our own SMF forum and it was a pretty good group. After i think 14 years, on the 19th or 20th of October it was hacked and we lost it all. I've got a Google group up and running but it'll never be the same.

The lesson to take away is: if it's good info, cut and paste it to a text file on your own machine while you still can, the internet isn't always a friendly place to store info.

I haven't hung out here in a couple of years, although I try to get the KSL rally going every spring. Currently riding an NC700X and working on a 71 Honda SL350. Would like to get a small dual sport in the future. My Nighthawk 750, Nighthawk 650 and DR 650 are gone.

I'm also still here and check in upon occasion.  Precious is still alive and well although nowadays has been returned to period correctness and enjoys good weather rides and competes in the occasional show like her older brethren Goldie and Sunshine.  I sold my NC700X to our esteemed Mollusc and traded in my big Triumph Thunderbird cruiser for my main ride: A 2015 Triumph Tiger Explorer (Miss Foxxy Shagwell).  She's an awesome ride encompassing the best aspects of my prior / other machines and more.

Hey Kitch, you'll be happy to learn that some Back To Black took care of those weird water marks on the side covers.  I also changed the stock seat for a Seat Concepts replacement, for a marked improvement in butt comfort.

I'm still here even though my Nighthawk has been gone for almost 7 years.  I love the traveling rally that the Michigan Boys put on every summer, and I never miss the KSL Rally.  I miss the antics of AWB, Jenn, Pants (who posts RR here from time to time), Pant's friend who had the 750 with the external tank, and the infamous Bumblebee.  Those were the days!

Still "alive and kicking" in 2018 and about to take a short ride (100 miles) to visit a local Walgreens...
Having a 50+mpg bike helps - both in a cheap ride and a lot of fun..
