Title: Better Late Than Never
Post by: studiosteve on November 25, 2017, 01:00:05 AM
I actually took this ride on Labor Day weekend.  Now that its cold Im reminiscing and realizing I never posted a ride report....so here it goes.

The trip took me from Chicago across the whole state of Illinois, up into northeast Iowa where I spent the night, and back home through Wisconsin. I clocked in at 605 miles total.  I took the smallest twistiest roads I could find without adding tons of unnecessary mileage.  I can say with confidence the weather, my mood, my bike's performance, and the route all contributed to the best 2 days of riding I've had so far.  I remember getting home and feeling empty and disappointed with my normal life off the road, it was bliss! I can geek out and retrace all the roads I took, but that would take a lot of time.  If anyone is particularly interested, let me know and Ill create a google map.

I enjoyed your report.  Nice scenery pics.  The House on the Rock looks very interesting.  Nothing like a few days on the road on a motorcycle.

Even the Lidar imagery shows how simple and unbelievably consistent the mounds are.  Pretty fascinating!

Wonderful report.  That infinity room looks like a really cool place to visit.  Thanks for sharing your ride.

I'm sorry I just saw this...you rode practically through my back yard. HOTR is only 15 miles from my place.

If you're up this way again, let me know and maybe we can ride together for a bit once again.

SS, long time no chat, great report.  Let's plan a ride this spring.  I had a chance to get out last Saturday for about 150 miles but still have the chills.  Not complaining though, I'll take January riding in Chicago any day.

In 1971 I and a friend took a trip around Lake Superior, two up on his bike, a new Bonneville.  Took nine days to get around that lake, and I loved every second of it.

I'm late to comment but just wanted to say those are some great areas to ride.  Really like the view from Pike's Peak State Park.
