Don't have the interest these days in posting 25 threads to gain access to the FS forums.
Would prefer to sell the complete bike to a fellow enthusiast vs. parting it out.
Thanks

my wife was okay with the engine in the dining room while i rebuilt it one winter.
she wasn't so happy to find the head in the bath, soaking in a baking dish.

Park it behind the dining room table, or next to the TV so you can look at it every night.

Good advice for any bachelor bike owner...  For those with a spouse... maybe not.

First, welcome to the forum.  Good information and good people here.

Next, here is how I would approach your situation, in this order, and on BOTH bikes simultaneously (do the same thing on both bikes):

1.  Remove the alternator cover and try to turn the motor by hand, verifying that the starter chain is not broken.

2.  Take a compression test on each hole, first dry, and then with a squirt of marvel mystery oil.

3.  Take a leak down test to further your confidence that you have good combustion chambers.

If these tests reveal good results, not knowing anything more, I'd start with the "parts bike".  As previously indicated, if the bike with the leaking frame seized due to low oil, even if it has good compression now, has something underlying (likely a bad crank bearing) that is going to rear its head sooner or later.

Start here and report back on your findings.

If you're in southern California, I have a stock exhaust in good shape I'm looking to get rid of.

I can tell by the single plastic piece of the bike that remains and the crater tank that it was the Black-Orange-Red originally. To be honest, I’m not unsure that the tenant didn’t use the tank and plastics from the 85 and put them on the 86. The 86 is the frame with definite structural damage and the engine said to be running. Neither are seized, Both have clean titles, I guess all I can do is run fluids with them and do a compression tests. I inherited a couple of mysteries lol

I aspire to half of pants' picture and story telling je ne sais quoi. You could work on a way to transmit the taste of all the food porn, though... Some kind of augmented reality?
